It only struck me yesterday how counter-intuitive it is to call my daughter a 'crazy bastard' when she started scooping water out of the bog.
- I'd lost track of her for like 10 seconds - literally. Straight into the bathroom, and apparently into the toilet. Little fucker.
It's a small flat.Nairn - Also - must stop swearing in front of childNairn
- My son is 2.5 this week. He said “what the fuck?” And meant it.monospaced
- I let my kids swear in front of me from a very early age. They weren’t allowed to swear in front of anyone else, just me. We talked about what the words meant..Morning_star
- ...and how offensive they can be, but when it was us we were swearwolves. It worked, they’re 15 & 17 and very rarely swear.Morning_star
- I like that methodology, M_s - it's kind of the tack I figured I'd take. Swear words are good for expression, so shouldn't be damned.Nairn
- That said, if she gets kicked out of school for 'Speaking French' I'm on the first train up to Brum to kick your ass!Nairn
- It’s hard to explain that concept this young but maybe soon he will understand. He knows it’s wrong because of the reactions he refeiv s from adults.monospaced
- So right now the strategy is to not react at all. Don’t even entertain it. It works.monospaced
- Oh yeah - even prior to my own kid, I was a big believer in "don't react!". Especially when kids fall down, etc. Kids react to adult emotions.Nairn
- So true Nairn. Be the adult you want your kids to be.
If you do find yourself on the way up here let’s go axe throwing instead to settle it.Morning_star - https://www.myabando… ?Nairn

So proud that the day doesn't start in our house until we've watched and sung along to "Fight for your right to party" and "Intergalactic" by the Beastie Boys.

One thing I find weird: In most content referring to infants (online and in books, youtubes etc), they invariably presume to refer to the infant as male "At x months point he should be.." blah blah.
I find it really odd.
I thought the accepted form in language generally was to assume the feminine gender?

- what?Nairn
- The traditional was to assume male but I see it the other way around more and more over the years. I suppose it is up to the author now.monospaced

My 5 year old is coloring in his workbook and he glances to my screen as I'm going through logo directions I designed... he says, "go back" and he points to the logo he likes... and it was my fav or the group too.
Awe, my little guy likes my taste!

Oh kids and their innocence...
This morning while getting ready for soccer practice, out of nowhere my 4 year old daughter said “dad, when am I gonna turn black?” I said “what do you mean?” She said “Selene at school is black, am I gonna turn black too?”
I really love watching these parts of childhood happen.
- Lol, the imagination of a child is fantastic. My 4 year old niece lives in the countryside. She calls buildings "dinosaurs" :)maquito

My daughter is almost 3 1/2 and this morning she said what might be the coolest random thing she ever said. I was making her breakfast in the kitchen, and she looks at me and closes her eyes and says "when I close my eyes I can see all my memories from school. All the memories in my brain."

My son was born a month ago. A cool chill kid. Made a newspaper and little movie to send to people.

On Thursday my 1st grade son will face off in the school final Scripps Spelling Bee against the 4th and 5th grade.
I have no doubt he has as much chance to win as any other kid there.
just some of the words he may have to know for Thursday (and he knows every one of them and all of the other words from the 2nd to 8th grade lists):
supercilious
formaldehyde
vicissitudes
oologist
auspices
panegyric
cabochon
verdigris
rhododendron
Kilimanjaro
coquelicot
ichthyosaurus
