I'm sure I'll get chewed out for this, but since I HAVE done some significant re-design, I wanted feedback on the latest version(s) of my site.
http://www.pubbsoft.com
and
http://www.pubbsoft.com/alt/2 main things are:
1. Is it easy to understand what the software is/does?
2. Is the fixed width or the full width version better in your mind?

too much bevel for my cup of tea.
it is not easy to understand, yet it's asking itself the same question: "what is pubbsoft?"i would prefer a clean "pubbsoft is blabla..." in the first place. rather than a question.

Some typeface cleaning up and losing the bevels will take your site a long way...
Possibly a rethought branding? Something simple, but strong and graphic?
Good hustle on the product & concept though!
Gotta start somewhere...

PUBSOFT sounds better...

PUBBLISH?

The elipsis at the end of "Simplifying digital publishing...." is grammatically incorrect, and probably a turnoff for writers. You should lose that.

PUBLICH?

Its a better solution, yes. But still flawed in my opinion.
There seems to be quite a loose grid, tighten it up. If you're running with 3 columns then grand, make the buttons, questions, horizontal rules etc stick to those columns. Right now it appears a bit slap-dash and sloppy.
On the branding, it looks very dated and, I'm sorry if I'm being harsh, unprofessional and rough. The colours you chose don't work very well together and the overall look is quite at odds with the service.
If this is to making publishing for ipads easier, it should be friendly, inviting, simple and professional. Make it look like you care about the end result, because otherwise potential buyers/clients could be put off by a seemingly 'cheap' site that offers a cheap service that won't work very well. Its a matter or perception.

I think you have to start with the colours. The green and orange are too strong, aren't really suitable for your product, and don't go together very well. And the gradients are making things look grubby.

you couldn't just update one of your other three posts:

i wish you can rebrand that logo.
- dbloc0
I can do you a better logo for 5 bucks
- dbloc0
why the bevels? It feels so late 90's with the bevels.
- acrossthesea0
Is this for real? Possibly the worst modern site I've seen in a long time.

no bevel effect, gradients, orange/green.... and no buttons. seriously choose some better colors. Think one neutral with one highlight color, technology appropriate.
since your "logo" isn't doing anything for you just use a bold sans serif font, use the same for the type that is in the buttons now. If your logo looks like cheap crap then people will assume the product is too or just think its really ugly. simple type is much better. Make it really big if your afraid it won't have enough emphasis
I like the interface ok, but visually you should simplify it as much as possible...
seems like a huge disconnect that your product is for ipad/phone developers or people who want to make stuff for them but visually your not even close to an apple type vibe. Think about your design being a part of that world rather than trying to create your own.

Layout isn't bad, but the three numbered points should be above the fold....of like a 1024x768 space
Why ask the user questions? Why not just say 'Pubbsoft enables non-technical people to publish books easily' or something like that? Asking questions makes me go 'see you later! lots to do!'
It's ugly. Green and orange? And bevels with outlines? You need to strip it down....clean it up, get a better color palette. Feels like some mash up of halloween and st. pats day or something

My thoughts are the same as the last two threads. The content is fine but the visual design isn't at all appropriate for your target audience. And changing it from a liquid layout to fixed width is such a minor difference that it's hardly worth posting a new thread over. If you aren't going to take peoples' feedback into account (over the colors, logo, visual design) why bother?

^ +1. I think that you've done a better job of organizing the content. Now you just need to bring the overall design into 2011.
