i'm on it, reconnected with some good people i thought i'd never see again. my favorite part are the pics and chatting with friends from far far away. it's all about customizing your privacy settings.

i have it and i have mixed feelings..... i liked it when i was in college (when it came out) and it was a new way to meet people at a huge school.
...but now that everyone and their mother has it, it has gotten way too weird. i end up getting depressed and stalking ex-boyfriends and/or FB chatting with someone i knew in 5th grade.
i think i'm going to quit soon.

unless you're worried about the privacy thing paranoiacs are all worked up about facebook is harmless.
time-waster? don't go on every day.
don't like your friends? don't talk to them on it.
don't like people who post a lot? you can block their posts.in the end it's a simple way to keep track of people. i'm too lazy to keep track of people i know or meet and all the profile features make it interesting.
whining about it just makes you look scared
- also, a quick facebook check is a quick way to find out whether a person is worth hanging out with or notscarabin
- i think it's a great communication tool - but i guess i rely on it more than mostbjladams
- to each their ownscarabin
- and that quick facebook check will tell you everything you need to know right? fucksake.josimar

- i can tell pretty quick if i'm not interested in a personscarabin
- I dunno man. I don't think FB should define anyone to that extent, scarabin. Mine didn't, and for a damn good reason.monospaced
- don't worry guys, you all passed the testscarabin
- i'd rather find out the new girl is a man-hating republican furry before i waste my time hitting on her and regretting itscarabin
- i don't see how this can be considered superficial. it's simply a new way of getting to know someonescarabin

Nope.

it's a love/hate relationship
good for keeping connected with far away friends and family and playing scrabble
bad for the phishing and exploitation and getting jealous looking at friends holiday pics
... I'd like to give it up but it's like a drug

It does sound a bit daft to have a negative opinion of something as ubiquitous as Facebook - how you use it and what you get from it is up to you, but it's not crap or lame in and of itself.
This thread sounds like a load of 40 year old blokes talking about the internet in a pub in 1995...

page 3.5... hope i'm not the only one laughing at QBN junkies claiming FB is a waste of time.

I find it very ironic how all you designers, web and tech guys talk about FB like it's ridiculous. It clearly has some value to a huge number of (regular) people in the world (not that you're "irregular" though, but most on here are very web-centric shall we say).
Since many of us work with or on the web, personal feelings aside, it's foolish (or certainly conceited) to disconnect from such a huge technological movement.I resisted (and disliked it) until I got on it in 2008, met 2 half-sisters of mine there for the first time. It's also great to keep in touch with people in different countries (I'm from Ireland and live in Florida) - without it I surely would have lost touch with a LOT of old friends. It's not like you're gonna call acquaintances every few months or write them personalized emails with vacation pics...
It's all in what you use it to do - if you're on there gossiping, well that's OK cos you'd probably just be watching Jersey Shore anyway. If you play Farmville, you'd probably waste that time playing another game too.
Make it work for you, your interests, network of friends and contacts instead of feeling like you have to spend an hour on there daily or some other crap you hate.

On it? Sure. A lot of my work interacts with social networking sites, so it'd be stupid if I wasn't. It's a solid tool, though could really use a design overhaul...again.
However, I don't really use it outside of work, as I really don't need to keep in touch with anyone through social networking. I restrain my networking to my professional life via LinkedIn, so FB and Twitter (no account there) are wastes of time.
But I think the most irritating thing about Facebook can be summed up here:
