maybe this is the strategy of the future? create a logo so obscene, that it starts creating a shitload of buzz... garnering the attention your brand desperately needs.

that tactic, as crazy as it is, might just work because ppl will stop to notice the store window now or go in etc. Maybe they've got some wacky ad campaign to make ppl take notice. It really is shocking tho.

Does anyone know what their new packaging looks like? Is it a white bag with the logo printed in the middle?

I think it shows a bold new approach. The black helvetica is iconic in itself and a confident step to talk to consumers in a new voice, popularised across the world in many successful brands and graphic applications, certainly the right choice. The blue square and it's subtle gradient is a nod at gap's younger internet savy customers, "no longer is gap stuck in the 80's", they are saying. Moving forward i think we'll see ground breaking gap apps where this new brand will really shine through. Take a deep breath, don't be afraid of change, embrace it.

I like mydo's positive attitude towards the logo, it almost sounds like you are not a QBNer.
I agree with most of what you said, people here tend to be against change in general, but I believe every now and then change is for the better.
You wrote great reasons to why the logo should be changed, but I'm not sure if the new logo is the right choice, but then again, I'm so influenced by the previous logo that maybe that is clouding my judgement.
Maybe not, maybe it just sucks, but I'm open to see something else.

WHAT BRANDING COMPANY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS MESS??? THEY SHOULD BE FIRED!!!

What Mydo says makes perfect sense. Change can be good and sometimes we as humans are afraid of it. But if I step back and look at the new logo objectively and compare it to their previous logo I think the new logo is a fail. But everyone has an opinion.

This talk about how change can be good.... is correct... when the change is actually... good.
In this case, the only change that needs to happen is for the Gap to change their underwear because they just left behind a big long brown smear stain of a logo.

- f*uck it, the meeting with the executive team is in 15 minutes, send it to print!
- But boss! I need to remove that square from one of the previous comps!
- No time! (hits print button)

Change good? Sure why not...the problem is that it looks like shit.
Which matters more for a clothing label than some other company. No one wants to be seen wearing the brand with the shit logo.
