great headlines. articles are hit and miss. doesnt translate to tv news satire well, except for the highway slut spill.

There is a great podcast on Sound of Young America about the Onion writing process.
They brainstorm headlines every morning. And try to work the stories off of them, this explains why the headlines are great and the lengthy articles are a bore 90% of the time.

i hear there's discord between generations of writers at the onion. a friend told me their friend was complaining that the youngin's will write great stuff that never gets selected by the older higher-ups because they don't get the humor or whatever

Never thought it was funny really. Guess I'm not highbrow enough. Cockpuncher was funny. But thats about it.
An awesome comic-artist told me though,

It just seems like really dated humour. It's not smart of unusual, just obvious and repetitive.
The sony video mentioned above has one gag (that's not funny) repeated ad nauseam.
