(i haven't read the entire thread...)
Were they just purchasing an additional domain name (maybe users were accidentally leaving out the "the" when typing the address, so they're creating more options to cover all the bases) , and screwed up the DNS entry?

I don't really get what's the (big?) deal.
Somebody 'steal' my website (it looks quite much like a template anyway) but forgets to remove all my details and shit. So basically I have another domain with all my stuff in it.
Meaning it makes no difference to me... does it?No ads on there so who care whose domain is it anyway? Even better, no need to worry about paying hosting :P

someone you never met, bought a better URL,
when your hosting failed, they copied the site.
they got top of google.
and left your contact details on it.therefore someone is helping you get business, and you're angry with google?
