"U.S. national Bobbie McDow said she watched the group of teenagers from the middle of the Santa Fe Bridge, which spans the border and has two security checkpoints at either side. The teens, who had no weapons or backpacks, were playing a "cat and mouse game" McDow told the Journal, by trying to make it to the U.S. side and back to Mexico without being caught.

McDow said that two Border Patrol agents saw the group and chased them—and that one of them, riding a bicycle, caught one of the suspects and pinned him down. She said that the same agent then fired shots into Mexico, where the other boys had run. McDow said one of the teens had thrown rocks at the agent, but that Hernandez hadn't.

McDow's husband, Raul Flores, told the Journal that he'd seen Hernandez emerge from behind a pillar on the Mexican side of the border with his hands up before the agent shot him, first in the shoulder and then in the head."

Wow, America does produce some really scared pussy mofos if they have top react with guns to rock throwers. I thought that GI Joes were fearless, i guess it comes to realize that in reality they are scared mouse thinking that sky will fall on their heads any minute now.

    • I'm not sure this has as much to do with scared as it does with empowerment and aggression.Point5

" i wonder what the reaction of the US would be if the tables were turned and a mexican border patrol agent shot an american teenager in the face (under similar circumstances). "

Or maybe if say an Israeli killed an American aboard a ship. What would the reaction be? If you're interested in the answer check out the last page of the politics thread. Said video is right above a posting by non other than DrBombay, who of course completely glossed the video over. How fucking hypocritical of you (all).

I find it interesting everyone sees it as "border patrol overreacting to rock throwing" kind of thing, forgetting the boy was involved in illegal activity. He wasn't just walking there, throwing rocks about. He was caught breaching a national border – quite a serious offense on its own – and attacked an officer while at it.

Technically, this is no different from attacking a cop while caught on robbery. People get shot like that all the time and nobody makes a problem out of it. If you're caught red-handed breaking into some property at night, stand the fuck still or you might get shot – this is common sense.

What if someone was trying to sneak out of an airport, bypassing border control and started throwing rocks at guards when approached. Would the use of force be justified?

Somebody died, this is always wrong. But apologizing would be sending a wrong message on a large scale. Thousands of people who are about to breach the border will laugh at US public naive stupidity. The right message is "the border is closed and guarded by armed officers. Don't even fucking think of breaching it."

Perhaps the borders should be open. But we're not discussing this now. The border has been closed for ages and was being breached.

"President Felipe Calderon [..] will use all resources available to protect the rights of Mexican migrants." – what rights is he talking about? A right to safely break into neighbouring country? This is actually funny in its absurdity.

Border Patrol doesn't fuck around, everyone around here, on both sides of the border, knows that. Especially if you're throwing shit at them.

    Stay thirsty my friends

  • DrBombay0

Anyone care to change their opinion?

  • gabe0

i wonder what the reaction of the US would be if the tables were turned and a mexican border patrol agent shot an american teenager in the face (under similar circumstances).

  • plash0

Shit like this happens in Chicago all the time.
always seem to be a little kid playing around minding their business.
on 5.25.10, something like 19 people were involved in some gun related violence.

i know it's off subject but i find the idea of "thugs you wouldn't want in the country" ridiculous. they are already here.

  • sigg0

You're confusing riding your nuts/ragging on you, with calling you out. You don't have to know me in order for me to do that.

    • Not quite sure what you were calling me out about...DrBombay
  • PonyBoy0

Given the shit that goes down w/those gangs on the border - is it really smart for those teenagers to be playing 'cat and mouse' games w/the fucking border patrol?

No... I don't change my opinion... ... the kids need some fucking discipline - and this shit wouldn't happen.

Anytime a human being loses their life I'm pissed... but you can't tell me that the border patrol knew what these kids were up to... the kids put their own lives at risk w/stupid games like that.

I blame the parents... and Mexico... ... not the border patrol. None of that shit would have went down if A.) Mexico gave a shit about their people.. B.) The kids had some discipline.

Again - how many Canadian kids are fucking around on the border etc etc... ? Oh wait - none.. because their country provides and cares for their people... ... and their system of family support is far better intact.

For this shit to stop... Mexico needs to step up - both the Gov. AND the people... ... start showing a bit of respect for their own lives and well-being and we wouldn't EVEN NEED the border patrol.

    • I guess that kid got disciplined.DrBombay
    • //yes - that's exactly the kind of discipline I'm talking about... ... dork.PonyBoy
    • Every opinion you have is based on the fact that you are white.DrBombay
    • No - my opinion comes from being in a country that's obviously flawed but also has plenty of good tradition...PonyBoy
    • ... including family values.PonyBoy
    • It would be better without Mexicans, right?DrBombay
    • Once again - you can't help but show what a racist you are, Rick... you have to include it in everything you talk about.PonyBoy
    • You generalize the entire country of Mexico and say they have no family values or discipline. You know that right?DrBombay
    • jesus!... where did I say it would be better w/out mexicans?? All I said is they need to step up on their end, you fucking racistPonyBoy
    • But I am the racist?DrBombay
    • You said Mexico needs better family values and discipline, right?DrBombay
    • I generalize THE BORDER issues you DICK... Mexico needs to take care of their border towns.PonyBoy
    • you twist shit so disgustingly...
... that I now can't be bothered to reply anymore
      PonyBoy
    • You are really just projecting your racism onto meDrBombay

"the kids need some fucking discipline "

    blaming the victim.. real smart.

    • they wouldn't be victims if they had a bit of self discipline... YES I blame those who fuck w/authority.PonyBoy
    • and his parents, and his country. everyone bar the murderer that pulled the trigger.lowimpakt
    • yep... blame the guys who put up w/violence everyday... that makes sense tooPonyBoy
    • Man, you really hate fucking Mexicans a lot, huh?DrBombay
    • if they can't put up with the situation they need another job. Murdering kids isn't on the job description, lowimpakt

I lived in El Paso for a year and grew up in Las Cruces, been to Juarez a lot growing up. That community is dirt poor. Their family values aren't exactly up to par to be comparing our values. Ffs, in the winter time you can see them burning their own houses to stay warm. you think their parents are gonna ground them for playing near the Rio? gimme a fucking break man

    • and this is where MEXICO needs to step in and work out these issues... instead we're stuck trying to protect the bordersPonyBoy
    • you should write Mexico a strongly worded letter, let them know what they need to doBonSeff
  • gabe0

if i got shot in the face for every time i so much as tempted the patience of LEOs when i was younger...well, let's just say it wouldn't be a pretty sight.

using deadly force against unarmed teenagers wielding rocks is absurd...it's not discipline, it's murder.

here's a thought: perhaps the officers could have simply stepped back and moved out of throwing distance?

  • sigg0

"At 50-60+ feet and running away there is no way the agent was aiming for his head. His heart rate is probably elevated, running on adrenaline, holding one of the immigrants down shooting at him after he threw a rock. I don't justify it but I doubt he was aiming for the head. Also I doubt at that distance he could instantly tell the kid was in fact 15, and not older "

    ADDITION BELOW:

There seems to be a bit of a conflicting report. While watching the video posted in the first post look at the video still below...

With all that I said above, a stone was just thrown at you and now you see a person (pictured in the upper left hand corner of the image) with his right arm at his side, left arm extended pointing at you... again, what do you do?

    • He didn't appear to come out with his hands up did hesigg
    • that picture reminds me of a scene from "running man". scary day and age we're ingabe
    • Apparently you shoot him in the head.DrBombay
    • Killer drop in. Way to add to the conversation DrBombay. Put another book on your soapbox so you can be a bit higher please.sigg
  • PonyBoy0

I love how you guys are taking my word 'discipline' and using it as if I'm talking about the kind of discipline the border patrol 'applies'...

... I'm talking about Parents disciplining their children... giving a shit about their families and fellow countryman... ... if they just started to give a shit there would be a lot less stress on that border

    • //Mexicans don't discipline their children.DrBombay
    • not the ones playing cat and mouse w/the border patrol - and according to this thread... it's COMMON PLACEPonyBoy
  • bump0

probably an accident. maybe even an incompetent/rogue agent. tragic, but definitely no more scandalous than an everyday fatal car crash. i can see why a newspaper would try to spin this into something more, or a politician who has an agenda, but how the fuck do you even care? this thing inherently isn´t about politics or another systematic problem. except if you desperately need it to be. for whatever reason. most often inferiority complex, anti authority, that stuff. recognize!

and @the polish breechloader: america and every single other fucking country in the world. everybody´s really sorry that you have a tiny schlong, but fascism isn´t going to help you.

  • gabe0

ponyboy, you're clearly missing the bigger picture if you are attributing this event to a lack of parental discipline.

    • it was merely a point among many points I've madePonyBoy
