Just to give a little context about "Government caring" stuff... I don't think the Government as an org cares more in the US than in Mexico, but we have better systems set up. For exmaple, I believe only 11% of current teenagers in Mexico go to Univeristy. Mexico only has government mandated schooling up through middle school. Highschool is much like college here. You apply and hope to get in... but there aren't enough schools, so many kids end up taking jobs for just dollars a day. Comparing poverty and income in MX and the US is not the same, by any means.
In addition, things like gov run middle schools aren't like in the US. I visited several in DF in poorer areas. They had 10-15ft walls around them with razor wire. I asked if they had problems with people trying to get in... they explained no, they had problems with students trying to get out.
Why do I know all of this? I work with various universities in Mexico. Currently I work with a school in Mexico city, but in the past have stopped by schools in Juarez, San Luis Potosi, and Monterrey.
There are many other issues behind Mexico's problems, schools just being one. When visiting you realize why so many people want to come to the US. I wish instead of spending so much to keep them out we'd work with their gov to imporve their country... but I know it's not that simple :\

- I'm not agreeing w/ anyone specifically, just explaining what I've seen and the differences w/ schoolsjfletcher

^ Perhaps it wasn't a "fair" fight. If the mexicans want to throw rocks. The border patrol should have done the same. They could have easily picked up their own rocks or had rocks ready in case of mexican rock throwers.

i thought this thread was about a shooting that happened 15 years ago.

Ugh. I know there are two sides of the story. The thing that strikes me, is I've been to Chihuahua and Juarez (most violent city in the state). The border is a tense area and that part specifically has a *lot of crime. I was in Juarez for 21 hours... 18 people were killed during that time... and the city is no larger than Seattle land wise. It's insane. Police with machine guns on every corner.
In the middle of a situation like this I'm sure people just freak out. Not that I'm defending the situation, and I'm not pleased about the US's stance in regards to Mexico overall... the whole thing just sucks :(

He shot an unarmed person. Don't forget that.

Rocks = weapons.
If I were to throw a rock at you, it would be considered assault.Use of deadly force is a judgment call though. What he should have done is shot the kid in his nutz or in his ass.
Then again, wtf is the kid doing trying to cross the border? Where are these kids parents? If you're going to blame the border patrol, blame the parents too.
- PonyBoy0
If the teen wasn't throwing rocks - this wouldn't have happened. Don't forget that.

new video, cops shot the kid three times

- PonyBoy0
I like Arnold Palmers, Don't forget that.
- bored2death0
That kid shouldn't have been in the bullet's way.
- ceiling_cat0
Sounds like a bunch of thugs I wouldn't want in this country anyway.
- lowimpakt0
it's really really sad that people somehow think that a kid deserves to be shot in the face for throwing rocks at a policeman.
it's also deeply insulting that people can brush away a murder by saying that a kid they don't know anything is about is a thug/drug dealer/illegal.
you'd need to be a massive asshole to not be worried about any teenager being murdered by an authority figure. regardless of their race/class or creed
- It's Customs Border Patrol not Police. If it was Texas police I'd expect all the kids shot dead.e-pill
