I've never bought a separate screen before. I use a MBP, any advice on make / model / price I should be looking at. Apple 24" is £540 education price.

Dell do great monitors at around half the cost of the Apple ones, fully compatible with your MBP.

ive been thinking about this too

Actually the one I'd go for (I have the 24" variant) isn't much cheaper than a cinema display, looks good though:

yeah the ultrasharp 24" is more than the apple one
- zr0
It should be cheaper:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novate…Dell also do a much cheaper 24" (2405/2410) around the £250 mark which isn't bad at all. If you're mainly doing digital work then there's little point in paying more for the extra gamut.

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro. And am waiting on delivery of the NEC MultiSync P221W - 22 inch, got it for £350. It has had great reviews for colour accuracy as an alternative to the more expensive higher end monitors such as Eizo coloredge monitors. It is a bit bulky though. Cheers
- I have a MultiSync EA231Wmi. It's a great monitor for the price.Josev

I just got one of these for under £300. Same spec as the new Dell Ultrasharp (£450) but without many of the problems reported. Its 23" - which means it's 16:9 ratio but you soon get used to it. Fantastic quality straight out of the box.

Fax_Benson one of what?

Ah, yeah, a link would be useful I guess

I compared the price of a 30" apple monitor and an iMac and found that just using the iMac as a second monitor/computer where I can do some video work was a better deal.
But that's really only if you want to stick with overpriced Apple monitors.

i have this at home - 22" samsung pebble
i had a 24" at work, and you wouldnt want more than 24", its just too much.
what is annoying is since xbox, ps3 and HD tv's became popular most high res monitors are 1920x1080 - Full HD,
whereas they use to be 1920x1200 - which is a much nicer ratio.
if i remember rightly 1920x1200 monitors were invented to edit HD clips whilst viewing the HD clips at max res - WRITE THAT DOWN!
- I could certainly do with an extra or bigger screen. MOAR PIXELS!zr
- I've had an iMac running 1920x1200 for 4 years, and they have more now. Apple's 30" has a shitton more pixels.monospaced

I read that the Dell ultrasharp are good, and even the G series. However I've read a lot about pink / green tints on the screen. Anyone any experience of that? My MBP goes a little green at the bottom of a grey screen.
- No problems herezr
- That's what put me off buying the Dell - although I didn't see one in real life.Fax_Benson

I think there are issues of some kind with most screens until you get to the high end ezio or nec models. Pink-green tints are dfinitely a recurring theme. Luck of the draw really. Dell are pretty good regarding replacements if you're not happy.

Well I guess what I don't want is a screen that isn't as good as my mbp
- mbp doesn't have a 24 - 30" screen though. scaling up + quality = £££Fax_Benson

Apple 24" LED Cinema Display 1920 x 1200
I'm in love. I know they're expensive, but having just played with one for a week (alongside one of those Samsung models posted above) I can tell you these are absolutely gorgeous—bright and crisp with nicely saturated colors. The built-in iSight and speakers are a plus, as is the power cable for laptops. (My primary machine is a MacBook Pro.) But they are not cheap. How not cheap are they?
http://store.apple.com/us/produc…Ug. A few more projects and perhaps then I can grab one. I'd rather work off this laptop screen a bit longer than waste money on a cheaper, but very ugly display that I'll cringe at every day. And I think I'm allowed to be this choosey: It would be my first monitor purchase since August 1999.

Yeah I'm going with the Apple I think. Off to swap my 15" for a 17" first and I'll have to make do with no screen for a while. I might wait till the new ones in June and see what comes.

the other thing I don't get is...People slate the MBP screen - glossy. Reflections I understand, but people talk about the colour being too 'punchy'. So, the same people probably talk about the 24" Apple screen as being great. Same technology, same colours, maybe less reflection if positioned correctly. Hm.
