Nice perspective here, in brief, Adobe wants people to lock into Flash, Apple wants people to lock into Apple's APIs http://news.ycombinator.com/item…
may be insightful, may be very skilled pro-Apple spin, can't tell yet. The reasoning makes sense though.

^ Adobe would survive without Apple easily - their software is great on Mac and Windows.

Adobe should throw their rattle out of the pram by ceasing to offer Photoshop/illustrator/inDesign etc for Apples imo.
With a huge percentage of Apple's consumers being the design and respective industries, in time these people would end up switching to PCs so they can get CS5 / CS6 ..... and apple will end up just making ipods and phones mwhahahahaha.

I don't understand this trauma, any competent AS3 programmer can learn Objective-C relatively fast, if you really want people to use your shit on iPhone OS devices (almost a hundred million devices now) it's your loss if you are counting on Adobe so you can start profiting from the App Store.
With a decent book and tons of online material already you can churn something for iPhone if you are really interested.

Any competent developer wouldn't have a problem switching from AS3 to Obj-C.

^ because many developers and companies, for that matter have tons of apps, games, and full-on libraries and API's that have already been written, and resources/assets that have been created specifically for them. i don't know if you guys ever took an economics course, but it's *profitable* to be able to take what you have and port it to another platform with little to no effort so you can begin working on new things. it has nothing to do with learning obj-c.
you guys sound like you don't even work in the same industry. what if your employer wanted to take 10 websites and port them as a cocoa app to the iphone? your competence as a developer wouldn't just immediately make the process seamless.

also, this isn't just flash, it's java too. java has been around a lot longer than flash, and a LOT of good software has been written using it. in fact almost every other mobile platform uses java which makes it easy for developers and other companies to port their apps from one phone to another. same with .net and any other popular or emerging run-time based technology.
i've said this before, but i'm not the hugest proponent of flash. i could take it or leave it. however, i think this is a matter of principal.

also, another possible theory for Jobs not allowing Flash, is that this could really hurt Adobe and cause their stock value to drop substantially.
How would you feel if Apple swooped in and bought Adobe for a few billion? That would be a devastating blow to Microsoft.
Apple is a great company, but it's my opinion that they are becoming less so. And as crazy of an idea as this is, that would be a heinous move on their part, and ironically the very epitomy of the orwellian symbolism decpicted in their popular 1984 commercial.

Well, you know, it's a dog eat dog world out there. What, do you expect Apple to play Mr. Nice Guy when Microsoft and Google aren't exactly doing the same?
I think the brush with cancer has changed Steve Jobs, and he's become more aggressive and more of a risk taker. We'll see if it pays off. I can guarantee, now that this has been confirmed, Adobe must be livid since CS5 launches in just a few days!

I think in a few short years Adobe will be offering their apps like a "Photoshop Online" in the cloud as servers, netbooks & global bandwidth grow in popularity and more high-speed standards are accepted.

Bah to the cloud. I can't afford to not be able to work because my ISP went down, the app servers went down etc. There is enough variables to want to add more. It'll be great if at 2 am you need to pull an all nighter and when you log into 'PhotoShop Online' you get a 'down for scheduled maintenance' message.
