Your premise is flawed and unfair. This is actually quite easy for modern-day rational people of christian faith to reconcile as true. Most do not believe the bible to be historic fact, but rather a guide for living well. It's the small, yet LOUD, minority of crazies that don't get it. In fact, some of the loudest DO get it, but they make tons of money being loud, so...
To me, the real issue to question is the idea of an anthropomorphic god in the first place. I believe in energy as proof of existence; not aliens, zombies, or other man-made explanations for the great unknowable universe.
- the problem is that you take some to be historical fact and some you ignore...it's ridiculousmonospaced
- By 'you' I hope you don't mean me. I'm not defending the christian religion (or any religion), just think the argument flawed.duckofrubber
- is unfair to the many non-crazies out there who actually can reconcile science with a christian concept of god.duckofrubber

personally as Christian I see that is a small part of extremists that believe that, sadly they are Americans so often they publish videos and make a big deal about it... and besides that, any source of information should be questioned. There is no guarantee in anything beside your personal experience... so, only because discovery says something you accept it without questioning?
- Not a small percentage at all actually.Mimio

- i'm basing my beliefs on personal experiences from living men who can show proofs, not outrageous, superstitious hearsay from people who have been dead for thousands of yearsscarabin

- all things i can learn and experience myself. yours... not so much. which is why you rely on "faith"– the miraculous ability of humans to believe in something they have no proof forscarabin

If Xtians were ever peaceful people they might not get so much flack in believing in a Superman in the sky, but as a whole, both the bible and the cult a war mongers. And nobody likes war mongers.

Anyone with a brain knows that the world was created 3000 years ago.

I'm not religious, but this doesn't in any way deny the existence of God. The more I learn about the world and how perfectly and completely everything fits together and how mind-bogglingly huge the universe is, the more I am in awe of the energy and life force that holds us together. Science to me confirms the existence of a God-like force. Call it whatever you want.
It's pointless to judge Christians or any other peace loving religions - I know there are nauseating specimens - but I have researched a lot of religions and it seems weird to me that Jesus (there is non-religious proof that he existed) is the one everyone decides to pick on when he was the least judgmental and actually one of the wisest and most loving of teachers that I've read about.
Sorry about the ranty nature of this. It's just something I've been thinking about a lot lately with all the Jesus bashing going on...
- peace loving. you have to read the bible, you got violence, incest, war, killing, more like Perverted Xtiansrobotron3k
- It's ok to be judgmental on this issue.Mimio
- I have read the bible - have you? God is always described as total love.SunSunSun
- no he isn'tscarabin
- he's vengeful and wrathful and murderous in more than a few partsscarabin
- God is an analogy for our physical sun. the bible is like the Farmers Almanac for planting crops.robotron3k
- Yeah, you're right he is described with different emotions, but they are caused by humans turning away from him.SunSunSun

the Bible should have a disclaimer in the front saying 'This is fiction.'

You should have just titled this thread "Dear Gramme".

I thought christians (the ones who take the bible as truth) thought the earth was 6000 years old.
Jesus was only supposed to have been born 2010 years ago- The bible narrative starts just before the beginning of the bronze ageSalarrue

Reminds me of the allegory of the cave.
Pretty soon people will be like "So you reeeealy believe that there was this huge explosion and then everything came into existence? Really?"

You forget that Jesus Christ was a man princple not blind faith. Archeology didn't exist when the Bible, the first one that lays out how the earth was created, so they had nothing to go by and didn't consider it a dogma until the scientific institution squared off against the various theological institutions like 400 years ago then all of a sudden this belief was brought into question and the shit hit the fan. It doesn't negate the true message of Christianity that is still around a relevant.
- If some of it it is a lie, then all of it is a lie.Mimio
- if Jesus WAS a Jew, why did he create a different cult and call it Christian? sounds like Jesus has no principle.robotron3k
- you don't know what I'm saying. Some of it was inaccurate because it was ancient, but most of it has nothing to do with the origin of the world.eieio
- ...with the origin of the world. It has everything to do with life style and morality.eieio
- In fact, the problem is religion structure and not faith itselfSalarrue
- Jesus did not create a cult and call it Christian. He was killed by the religious.SunSunSun

right. now. here's the deal.
the bible is a load of nonsense. It made sense at the time of writing cos fuck how else do you explain tornadoes and raining bloody frogs etc?! There's gotta be one big mean fucker out there and what better way to utilise his power than to use it to control people right?
But people need religion. Every culture from the furthest reaches of the amazon jungle to central europe practice some sort, and NONE of it makes any sense at all.
So let's all jsut accept that there's a part of our brain (frontal lobe methinks) that makes us need religion, no matter how silly it sounds. Like when you have sex with that minger.. you know it makes no sense but there's a little part of you that goes "aaah fuckit" it's my nature to procreate.
End of thread.

Fancy science here. I hope some day we take our blinders off and actually look at the geological evidence at hand and stop trying to make it fit into our "theories". I don't buy the creationist tale that the earth was created and all plant and animal life appeared in seven literal days. Nor do I buy the evolutionists fable that the earth must be a bazillion years old. The geological layer chart hanging in most classrooms does not actually exist anywhere on this planet. And no matter how technical we get with radiometric dating, the interpretation of the results is still based on our own preconceived assumptions. The evidence I've seen indicates that this was once a very warm planet with very lush vegetation, even at the poles. Something happened that drastically changed the climate very quickly, resulting in massive flooding that buried forests and other plant life in thick layers of sediment, caused continental plates to rise and fall, and eventually led to what we now call the "ice age". When and how all this occurred is a matter of debate, but as long as our scientists are more concerned about protecting their schools of thought and the validity of their precious "theories", it's doubtful that any thing close to the truth of what actually happened will ever reach our ears.
