spirituality formed because we couldn't explain the natural phenomena that occurred around us. we didn't know about planetary orbit so we imagine a giant beetle pushing the sun across the heavens. now that we have more evidence (and the scientific method) "spirituality" became science and god became obsolete.
there are tools and wisdom we can gain from religious systems, but it's now far from neccessary

about that everyone has the same story.

some dickhead must had been going around world spreading franchise.
could it be alien?!
only the franchise lost their core identity and everyone started to do their own shit.

The saddest part to me is that any attack on blind faith is viewed as being an asshole when in fact it's a path to a better way of life. IMO, Lennon (not Lenin) said it best:
"Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for todayImagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace"- Was it a millionaire who said "imagine no possessions"?fooler2

most religion are a little silly

it's the same story because it is a SOLAR story.
ALL humans witnessed the birth, life, death, and rebirth of the sun and came up with stories with that theme
- jesus = sun/sonscarabin
- no jesus who ever he was likely had the 'sun/son' thing attriubted to him, as opposed actually being the Jesuseieio

- Nailed that one.discoduro
- This is quite true indeed.duckofrubber

what about mind body religions? or the mind body morality of Jesus? Non of these sages and yogis tried to explain away material reality they tried to subscribe ways of living and dieing to understanding a larger reality, one beyond your death. It does in fact exist because the world will go when you're dead, and you should live for that greater reality if only for the others who will be around then.
Atheistic nihilists say the material universe is perfectly ordered and predictable AND totally meaningless. Its a dead end and inhuman philosophy. Not sure its close to any truth whatsoever and is most frequently used to make life useless and kill people. Where is the room for human reality?
- you're saying atheistic nihilists are using their beliefs to kill people. then you suggest that because it is not cheerful it must be flawedscarabin
- be flawedscarabin
- am i right?scarabin
- *cheerful?eieio
- no you not right you're not understanding. Atheists don't consider human realityeieio
- meaning is all through your life, you're life has inf fact a meaning but you can't understand that with atheistic nihilismeieio
- "Its a dead end and inhuman philosophy"scarabin
- you can with certain atheistic attitudes thats what Buddhism is but modern western atheism is nihilisticeieio
- death sucks. i'm used to the idea.scarabin
- ordered? at least its somewhat MEASURED!ephix
- that has nothing to do with cheer and everything to do with making a consistent world vieweieio
- sure you can measure the mind fucks you have. but you can't show any one else.ephix
- so what's the meaning of life?scarabin
- jelly beansephix
- i'm pretty sure more people have been murdered in the name of god than anything else, everscarabin
- oh but it was the "old testament" scarabin.ephix
- if they really believed that. then the 10 commandments dont count either.ephix

Matthew 19:14
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

Why is accepting reality the way it is "nihilism?"
Atheism doesn't rule out believing in a larger reality or that the world goes on after your death. All we are saying is that all these stories about Noah and the Ark, some guy getting eaten by a whale, and for that matter, the idea of heaven and hell...it's bullshit.

Well, as a Christian the second article about 'Tell Zeidan' strengthens my belief in the Bible.
Why? Because the bible teaches that mankind came into existence roughly 6000 years ago and that the first two humans Adam and Eve were put in the garden of eden which was in the Middle East near the river Euphrates, not too far from this site. Thanks!

accepting reality isn't nihilistic I didn't say that. Accepting reality is very buddhist thing and Christian and also the reason why they're sometimes confused with nihilism. Modern atheism is nihilistic because it fails at human reality unlike Christ and Buddhas world views, one has God one doesn't.

Let's just live and let live. Except when Christians say we can't have abortions, do scientific research, or let gays have equal rights. We'll just let those ones slide.
- * some Christians! and that has nothing to do with their Christianity.eieio
- I'm sure there's plenty other perfectly secular people who are opposed to abortioneieio
- this is a human rights issue obviously. Religion is on both sides of that.eieio
- Which religion is on the gay side? I've never seen that, other than some reformist sects of Christianity.ukit

How does it fail at human reality? Atheism doesn't try to address human reality. Atheism isn't a philosophy or all-encompassing way to live your life. It's just the idea that there is no God. If you want to attach a larger philosophy to that belief, go for it.
- ukit0
i.e., atheism isn't a competitor to or the opposite of Christianity or Buddhism. it's the opposite of theism.
- its NOT opposite theism athiesm is a theism look at the wordeieio
