you guys should go to a programming forum and listen to them talk so matter-of-factly about design. then you'll understand..

"8. Can you view any Web site on the iPad?
A certain format of online video, called Flash, does not play on the Apple iPad.
While there are some workarounds for this, many Web sites are redesigning themselves, using a type of code called HTML5, so they will work on the iPad.
That code allows video display on the device, but you may notice some sites will have holes because the iPad doesn't support Flash video."

fucking stupid apple. they could easily support it. spineless wankers.

- Adobe has part of the blame too, piece of shit Flash Player on the Mac it's horridernexbcn
- that may be apple limiting access to hardware acceleration.kingsteven

Naw...it's a good thing. I give props to Apple for courageously not supporting Flash.
It will finally get sites to make the effort and use HTML5.
- 'courageously'
careful there! might reveal you're a fan boy :PHombre_Lobo - also, whats courageous about driving more custom to your app store?Hombre_Lobo

Safari on iPad can't be used to create Google Documents, only to view them.

The lack of even one USB port – the universal means of connecting just about everything these days – means you can't connect the device to a printer or other computer peripherals, such as an external hard drive. The iPad can be connected to cameras, but it requires the purchase of a separate accessory from Apple.
- you're supposed to use it in conjunction with your PCmonospaced
- Cables are old school!boobs
- accessories = ca'ching!BattleAxe
- If it had one USB port on it, you'd complain there wasn't two!must_dash
- you still want to print something? why? if you want to view it, you look at it on screen......********
- .... if you want someone else to view something, you simply send it to them electronically.********

If you can handle actionscript... you can move on to something different if need be...
... mobile apps... javascript... etc etc...
Even if this is the 'end of Flash'... it shouldn't be the end of you.
- <dbloc
- but you have to learn how to forget all the random AS oddities and be more logical....vaxorcist
- so what? not one language is the same as the other... but if you're down with OOP... you should be G2G.PonyBoy
- wouldn't you be happy to be done w/all those annoying Flash discrepancies on ready to move onto something already universal?PonyBoy
- universal?PonyBoy
- whos down with O O P!BattleAxe

^ Exactly. Unfortunately I get the sense that many designers are "stuck in their ways" like some auto worker in Detroit who just saw their job outsourced.
Adapt or die, bitches.
- Ha, but yet you're promoting HTML5 like a stuck record. "Adapt to using the same fucking thing all the time, bitches."kingsteven
- na, i don't want to see the very technology that defined the expectations for HTML5 to be a victim of it's success, years before it's a viable alternative.kingsteven
- before it's a viable alternative.kingsteven

just a thought: How many more ipads would sell if flash was in fact a part of it?
- ukit0
Not many. Put aside video which will quickly become a non-issue, where will you really miss Flash?
Here are the top 500 sites. Let me know when you get to one where Flash is a major part of the user experience.

I just want a fast/reliable/supported environment to develop in like the Flash app.
- juskin0
cs5 outputs IPA... flash isnt going anywhere it will adapt just as other technologies have, and with support for more mobile devices cant see flash becoming obsolete for a long while and by then adobe will have pushed it along further.
- ukit0
Ya...but what HTML5 features does it really need? You can probably just redesign using jQuery and call it "HTML5";D
- fyoucher10
Flash isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
We are already able to get Flash banner ads on the iPhone/iPad. Greystripe (http://www.greystripe.com) does that. Maybe these new iPhone/iPad mobile browsers that are coming out with have a Flash Player emulator type thing built into the app which will allow the device to view Flash. Completely possible.
Just give it 5 or 6 months, iPad just came out. I'm sure as hell Adobe is on top of this like white on rice. I honestly don't think Adobe is behind on this. Apple just isn't letting them in the backdoor yet.
Let's be realistic. There is still a ton of things that CSS or HTML5 can't do that Flash can. There are some things that are better suited for CSS/HTML, like dynamic content and updating. Flash is better at visuals, animated shit, multimedia in general.
What I see happening is better integration of all of these technologies once this iPad hype is over with.
- I like your pragmatismwoodyBatts
- "animated shit" haBattleAxe

YES - IT WILL. No doubt about it.
Nobody gives a fuck about it anymore.- yea, i don't give a shit about the ipad anymoreMilan
