Christ, when will people/designers understand that the better things in Flash won't work in safari on an iPad, you wouldn't be able to roll over anything for a start...
and since nearly everyone else thinks Flash is for video anyway... then it is up to those providers to use HTML5 and h.264 with a swf degrade and then there won't be a problem...
RIP Flash

its a sad reality but possibly true
Although i'd like to be optimisic about it and think Adobe have got something up there sleeve to push flash to the next level.Theres no reason why Apple couldnt turn round in a few years and say "we are now allowing flash players in our products". No-one knows what apple are really doing half the time, so an announcement like this wouldnt suprise me.
Also i've not seen an example of HTML5 that is nearly as good as if you did the same thing in Flash so there will still be a need for it, even if it isnt as great as before.

Android (which supports flash) is gaining market share.
http://paidcontent.org/article/4…- apple has a multi-product/servic... strategy, andriod is not enough, neither is RIMDeIntegro

I'm not going to worry, unless hulu.com switches to HTML5.
- why would they not switch?tymeframe
- They've said they're not switching just because apple is having a tantrum.WrappedInBooks

^ all video should be html5. same goes for ads. there may be a few edge cases with regards to 3rd-party ad support or analytics, but for the most part, flash isn't needed here.

Then what does one do for the HTML 5.0 video that won't play in IE?
- ukit0
There are already companies offering solutions for this
I expect we'll see more soon.

HTML 5.0 is just HTML with a glossy effect and a reflection on it.

^ kiiiind of. it's a standard that all browsers will (read: should) eventually support. it will be a viable alternative to flash with respect to video and smaller-scale initiatives that developers might have looked to flash for in the past, to avoid cross-browser issues.
it will not replace flash, and will not kill flash. those that think so have a limited understanding of the technology and what it has become and what it is capable of.
- must_dash0
it hasn't anything to do with the technology but the take up on new devices... better platforms have ceased to exist purely because of market share.

As long as some program lets me import images to drag around, timeline animate, and throw together a hack of re-purposed code to make it function, you can call it whatever you like.
But if HTML5 takes me back to programming in my head without so much visual feedback, I'LL BE PISSED.

Better to use HTML 5 for video players when everything works with IE...
Surprisingly, some people don't have Flash installed... and the fact that you have to 'install' it is a hinderance. Of course, you have to install Javascript as well... but that's another benefit to using HTML 5.
I'm sure Flash will evolve, but the days of the all Flash site are already fading away. The fact that any device decided to not support Flash does not help us persuade clients to use it.

The lack of even one USB port – the universal means of connecting just about everything these days – means you can't connect the device to a printer or other computer peripherals, such as an external hard drive. The iPad can be connected to cameras, but it requires the purchase of a separate accessory from Apple.

Oh come on now...
You are going to tell me you are new to Apple?
They always pull this kind of stunts on purpose on their 1st gen products, the will add it on later versions, to motivate anxious, inexperienced 1st gen owners to upgrade the product.

- yep, i thought this when they announced the app export. but flash player can do a lot of stuff not in the html5 spec. i'd hate to see the player go the way of shockwavekingsteven

Steve Jobs will die before flash.

What kind of sense does it make to have this complicated proprietary language (AS3) which I then have to export to a different language?
Sense, this makes none.
- because you will not always have to export as HTML 5, only in some cases.dbloc
- complicated how? it's identical to java.SteveJobs
- All the same, it's kind of a needlessly convoluted workflow. Just write in JS.ukit
- The IDE is the point.kingsteven
- heard that for creating apps for the iPad Flash CS5 will be able to work with objective-cDeIntegro

we also thought the world was going to end in 2012...oh wait, it's only 2010.
