Why didn't anyone tell me about this? I had to see this in a CNN the article - point #8 below
http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/pte…
So companies are re-working their sites with HTML5 because iPad doesn't work with Flash?
Is Flash really going to die?? has anyone in here started to feel the effect of this? Has your directors asked you to implement HTML5 instead of Flash? I'm desperate. I've been a fan of Flash since Macromedia Flash v 2.0...

personally, I think we'd all be better off going back to director 6.
- tried it, fell in to a deep depression after 2 lines of lingokingsteven
- i remember it was like solving a rubik's cube just getting it to open a pdf properly on a cdrom.prophet

There will also be a place for Flash as well as HTML 5.
- prophet0
online ads will remain flash-based as will splash intro pages.

i was surprised also that when i looked at cnn and NY times on the ipad, the videos were all playing just fine with html5. That's pretty incredible to change an entire platform and re-encode loads of content just to satisfy the ipad users.

Hopefully the Flash IDE will export HTML5 at some point. I miss being able to throw together interface prototypes without 2 other coders.

I think the ramifications for flash developers are astounding. Essentially, flash is unnecessary at the moment. except for legacy flash gaming that can't be reproduced with javascript or some back end language... if flash has been relegated to video players then its days are truly numbered.

makes more sense flash is delegated to content creating tool as opposed to content creation AND delivery platform standard thing

lets not jump the gun here, while the iPad is out and about, it is not the only tablet on the market , will it be THE tablet on the market remains to be seen
once dell, google, and microsoft pads are all over the place then lets take a look at Flashes demise , right now not going anywhere

- Those Lava Tv's look great. They Run Android.http://www.w...Mimio

- Other tablets will have Flash, but it will suffer performance issues and kill battery lifemonospaced

- yeh mono, but I can't understand why anyone would have a preference for HTML5 over Flash for either reason.kingsteven
- i still haven't seen anything as visually impressive as some of the director stuff that was appearing before it's demise 7-8 years ago.kingsteven
- years ago, we're just getting there with flash 10/ 11 (especially with web audio/ synthesis) totally new experiences that will be lost to standards compliance.kingsteven
- to standards compliance.kingsteven

Another thread about this? there are like 3 other threads about this very same thing...
I don't see Flash going away soon, but I like that at least for video people are starting to use standard based solutions (HTML5).

Anyone has any good books recommendations or online tutorials for HTML5?
Thanks

Flash is going anywhere anytime soon. In the meantime ipad users are going to have to suck it up.

I hope so. Flash sucks. Apple does good by trying to do evil!
