> which is the best?
Whichever, whatever, you work best with.
Try on a wacom tablet.
They come in black now, which is pretty exciting.

wow, i would never be able to work with a trackball for sure.

i've seen ridiculous micro joystick to replace the track-pad on laptop. it was in the late 90s. but trackball... never...

@fodcj. I stopped using Desktops. Been exclusively on laptops since 2004. Portability has been a biggie for me, so I can't drag along anything bulky. And the newer USB and wireless versions of that TrackMan mouse didn't have the right weight / curves for my hand. It didn't feel right.
Right now I'm using an Apple Magic Mouse. I have to say that when it works it's really great. So much control in such a sleek form. And it's super portable. But when it doesn't work (which is a lot) it sucks enough to make me want to throw it across the room to watch it smash against a wall. If it constantly confuses left-click with right-click and randomly scrolls or zooms while I'm doing detail work in Illustrator it can't really be called "Magic" can it?

There is a good reason why barely anyone makes trackballs anymore.

I use a magic mouse and have to agree with stewdio - It's totally awesome (magic prefs is a must if you have one) but when I'm in illy or ps I am constantly accidentally zooming to 96.7% or something random like that when my middle finger grazes the surface.

So I've got a cheap standard mouse, with a middle button. On a Mac. Prefs: mouse... absolutely no ability to configure a middle mouse button.
Any ideas? I had used magic prefs a few years ago... apparently doesn't work now: http://magicprefs.com

^ This is a joke, right? Apple never made a good mouse in their history. The Magic Mouse was a sloppy mess. One wrong move and you're zoomed in 6400%. The pebble mouse in the above photo was amazingly bad. You'd have to try to clean out that scroll pebble every few weeks and they were jittery even after cleaning. Before that they were all one button. There was the round one that was so hard to orient when you grabbed it they started selling a plastic extension to hold it better. One failure after another.
- Except the original mouse from the 80s. That one was good ;)monospaced
