DrBombay - not one of the HTML5 video players is as good as, say, the Hulu player. Hulu (running as a single browser app through Fluid.app) uses about 80% of one CPU core. It runs smoothly.
Running the Sublime (HTML5 + JS) video player the same way? 165% CPU usage, and it stutters all to hell when you try to use the interface.
- but this should be fixed over time right. Same with anything newerikjonsson

So any ideas on how to tell Mr. Jobs and Apple in general that we DEMAND progress on flash support rather than just wishin', hopin' and prayin'!?
Their has to be some way because we have all collectively created the internet over the years, design and development wise at least. Designer strike?
; )

Demand? There will be no Flash on either iPhone or iPad, no matter how fast the processor, just forget it. This could bring Flash games to the platform and directly endanger AppStore sales. This is not going to happen, just like there is no Blu-Ray on Macs – Apple rents movies via iTunes and will not jeopardize this.
- wow; this is very valid. Apple limits technology for personal gains at our expense...ideaist
- That is true, look how many time apple have change there bloody video connections whenever a new mac comes out, it a fucking jokepillhead
- All too true; i miss hooking my HDMI cable DIRECTLY from my Powerbook to my 46" TV!!!ideaist
- Pre-dongle and Mini convertor days; miss me those glory days!ideaist
- The app store is full of free apps.ESKEMA
- I don't understand the relevance of the free apps? Nothing free is worth the time spend downloading...ideaist

So because the iPhone & iPad are Apple's technology and OS they don't have to oblige to any market/technological demands?
Instead they're shifting technology away from flash and other standards in order to solidify their App Store and iTunes technologies for all; mobile and not...???
- Apple can't control the user experience with Flash. It's not theirs to fix/upgrade/whatever...sky2x
- Apple charges a "premium" for their stuff because it all just works right. If they can't guarantee that, they won't run it.sky2x
- it. Jobs would rather not do something if it can' t be (in his eyes) "right."sky2x

Flash is used mostly for advertising. For long time people have been installing browser extensions to disable Flash ads. There's a lot of hatred towards it.
Advertisers, they will create non-Flash content instantly, no need to worry about it.
As much I consider html5 capabilities to be approaching what Flash could do in 1999, Flash, the better technology is going away.
There is a hint of a chance with the Air apps, which will be supported on virtually all non-Apple tablets, time will tell quite soon.
Wired's Air app (not compatible with Apple touch devices):

Then apple found a way to hide the ipad failure
- I like that they were called out on it; we need to simply point out any failures on their part...ideaist
- ...So they realize how imperfect and infallible they are...ideaist
- ...Knock them down a peg!ideaist
- that's not a bug, it's a feature... that's not a failure, it's a design scope limitation...vaxorcist

Adobe's next step: CS5 Creative suit for WINDOWS AND LINUX ONLY
- akrokdesign0
adobe is a bit out of shape. so how about they to shape up instead. they just put it out to have an other version, not cause it's FIXED or WORK so much better.
i am talking in general terms here. not just flash.
- < can't write. lol.
any way. there a point there hidden. like a flash loader. lol.akrokdesign - You're saying they release simply so people consumer rather than to truly evolve/progress the product?!ideaist

"Adobe's next step: CS5 Creative suit for WINDOWS AND LINUX ONLY "
Sure, if they want to sell 10 copies of CS5 LOL
- As I recall, Adobe sells more copies of CS on Win than on Mac. It would obviously be a huge loss though.noneck
- 95% cracked versions in asia. woo hoo. lol.akrokdesign

@ideiaist. If someone wants to do a flash app and distribute it for free, they can via appstore. I don't get the point where Apple don't want flash because that will lead to flash sites with games and apps for free, thus not gaining money from it. The app store is full of free stuff...

First of all, as a corporation Apple is legally bound to withhold or limit technologies if they believe it to increase profits for shareholders. So don't expect any favours.
But to the original poster, I've been in the same conversation with clients, but the reverse. The client says, "why don't we solve this with flash." My response is always, "Because it won't work on my iPhone."
I find it hard to believe that web designers are still using flash. Some of the same designers who talk about absolute accessibility, jumping through all kinds of hoops to make things work on IE6 are often still defending the use of flash.
I sympathize with flash-designers, but I think in most cases flash is something that should be avoided. The internet is changing, it's time to adapt.
- So suck it up, deal with it and move on then?! Let a great technology die...ideaist

I have to disagree with nb , while I agree that the internet is changing , lets focus on where the internet is going, while this debate is around mobile devices , that is not the last stop for the internet
what about TV's
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3…think about how much better Flash Content will look on 50 inch LEDs than on a 3 inch screen ,
- Internet on TV is a broken navigational experience. The ipad will be the device of choice for browsing while on the couch.hotroddy
- kld0
If your build a flash site, there should be alt content in html anyways. Just format it to look good on iphone and iTampon
- nb0
@BattleAxe: I was simply trying to point out that as a designer you care about accessibility, you might as well stop using flash now. I'm not suggesting we have to bow down to Apple but we must accept that, since the iPod, they dictate much of what the public will see in future internet techonologies.
To address what you've posted, you're right when you say mobile isn't the last step. But neither are TVs, or anything else for that matter. There is no last step. There never will be.
We need moveable data that can communicate with other moveable data and adapt itself, if we're going to manage what we've created. Flash's use of XML was a good start, but if Flash is pushed to the fringes of the internet, even just a little, it will be left behind.

huh? Bulldust. They're not legally bound to do any such thing. The Apple board can do whatever they like within the law...if their profits shrink, the board is held accountable, but not by the law.
