The fact is if ipad proves to be commercially successfull, we as developers/designers lost an alternative. Options = good. Now we're confined 'standards'. Sounds a little ominous to me.

Having to design on 3-4 browsers sucks. Having to be limited to 'standards' sucks. The fact is site likes grooveshark (and every other on demand streaming service which delivers music via flash) will be cutting into APPLE's profits. Job's doesn't want 'free on demand' music delivered on his portable devices. It would devaluate his little precious 'itunes' store where he sells all his licensed goodies to his flock of sheep.

the content is probably useless and glitzy
it's likely to be an ad
it's probably not worth waiting for it to download
the webmaster that doesn't give a hoot that 1/2 the visitors never see the content

This may help flash....
it could go back to being a niche application, used where it's good, and not used as a blanket solution to stuff it's totally inappropriate for... like re-inventing the browser features badly....i.e. creating a back button and linkable URLs in a pure-flash site, etc... and/or of course the ads and intros and weirdly confusing user-interfaces some designers cook up, or perfectly kerning type for the anal-retentive print designer who doesn't get the web...
so... niche -> Flash can do some interesting motion graphics, kiosk apps, web games, stand-alone RIA's,etc....
