IOC is working overtime trying to wipe that video off the internet.

^^ I couldn't watch... I could barely look at the stills...
... but I think the video needs to stay - let folks realize the dangers from all angles - both from the sledder to the folks / officials (those responsible for safety etc)

insane. looks like he died instantly....

jesus christ - RIP
That video reminds me of a fatal IndyCar/SpeedCar crash. Car got flipped and horizontally flipped into the fencing. Horribly violent.

It looks like he came out of the corner a bit too early, hit the opposite wall and it launched him.
Wtf were posts doing there? I know it would screw up a camera angle but couldn't that have been padded/sealed off to account for an unlikely impact like that?
- He's still going 95 mph...padding isn't going to help much when he stikes his head on it.marychain

they had already added more "wall" on the left side because there were worries about that specific corners. unfortunately they didn't add enough... such a horrible accident.

ugggh. buildup in CTV's full track version is even more horrible.

what on earth are they going to do during the live broadcasts?
so very tragic. rip.
- MSTRPLN0
They can't make the track a full pipe like a water slide? It just looks bloody dangerous/.

I looking forward to watching the curlers!

it is luge though. incredibly dangerous sport. i doubt the exterior design of the course is much different or less safe than the last olympics.
anyone know if skeleton top speeds are any faster?
- lvl_130
fuck, there is an image of him lying on the ground and it looks like his ear is almost ripped off of his head. that is messed up!
- tymeframe0
incredibly sad

Can they install a glass barrier? Something that cameras/spectators/officials could obviously see through but would effectively raise the wall another 8 feet or so.

wow just reading this previously written story...
http://www.ctvolympics.ca/news-c…
Holcomb has since claimed that the course was designed backward, with tighter turns near the bottom where sleds max-out the speed. And American luger Tony Benshoof told NBC: "When I first got on this track, I thought that somebody was going to kill themselves."
"There is a human limit," says Canadian luge coach and former German doubles medalist Wolfgang Staudinger. "I hope we don't increase the speed of our tracks. Whistler is on the limit."

on a lighter note, The Simpsons Vancouver 2010 episode airs Sunday night... Homer and Marge join the curling team or something.
I hope Bart ventures down onto East Hastings.

Luge and skeleton are some of the most dangerous sports out there. This is upping it...
