I would stay away from TN panels - good for watching movies and playing games but not good enough GFX design. Get one with IPS (S-IPS) panel but price will be higher.
I bought used dell 2005FPW with IPS panel and don't regret my choice.

You can get Samsung and Acer LCD's for about 200 bucks in the 20'-24' range.
Are these good? For print design? For life?

I was looking for the same kinda thing a little while back though I had even less to spend.
What I found with many hours of reading various reviews was that:
Dell were great a couple of years ago but the H-IPS panel monitors that everyone raved about are as rare as rocking horse shit now.
HP and Phillips do some good H-IPS and S-IPS around the £700 mark.
I ended up having to settle for a iiyama ProLite for now but will be looking to replace in a year or so. That said, for a TN it's not all that bad. Still not as sharp as S-IPS panels though.

The Apple, Dell, BenQ and NEC 30" monitors all use the same LG Philips panel. Most of the higher end monitors have either LG Philips or Samsung panels inside.

This thread is bullshit so far.
WHAT ARE THE TOP TRUSTED BRANDS?

plug manufacturer or model in here, see what panel is inside...

another nod for a dell. i've got a 22" as a second display for under CNY2,000 and it's niiiice for the price. does a 90degree swivel and pivot and stuff. yellows are slightly off though, but i've not calibrated it. should i?

I had a 30" Samsung 305T, beautiful monitor with great color (mostly web work). Lasted about a year and is now lost in the warranty process, I should probably call about that soon its been too long =(

I've heard a 27' iMac is a better buy than the 30' Cinema Display but with more pixels......
Not sure if you can get a Matt version, cause I hate glossy.
- yeah the 27" imac is still cheaper than a 30" acd right.erikjonsson

how do the LEDs measure up now? I got a shitty samsung tn panel next to my mbp led right now and they both suffer flaws but different ones

Samsung SyncMaster 275T here for web work, it's accurate.

Dell 24 Ultrasharp here. I do get a slight banding issue in blues and primary colors are damn bright but I'm happy.

Using 2 x Samsung SyncMaster XL24
LED Backlit ftw :)

I use a Dell 24" ultrasharp from 3 years ago. It's still awesome, though some models have a banding issue.
- What, because they're 6bit pieces of shit? You get what you pay for.monospaced
- I paid £850 for it three years ago, it's a great monitor, but some firmwares had issues. Got mine replaced. kthxMojo

good reviews here of the new dell 24". (Dell U2410)
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/their 'Panel Search' is a great feature. Just type in the product and find out what panel it's got. TN is lousy for colour. Better is PVA/MVA or IPS (H-IPS)

dell 24" ultrasharp or a apple 24".

i too have a dell 24" - love it.
my wife has a dell 27" and apple 30" - apple was overpriced (the office purchased it), but both are great.
