"Jerusalem, 9th October, 2009
Dear Mr. President,
Very few leaders if at all were able to change the mood of the entire world in such a short while with such profound impact. You provided the entire humanity with fresh hope, with intellectual determination, and a feeling that there is a lord in heaven and believers on earth.
Under your leadership, peace became a real and original agenda. And from Jerusalem, I am sure all the bells of engagement and understanding will ring again.
You gave us a license to dream and act in a noble direction.
My best personal wishes,
Shimon Peres"

this might just be Europe saying, "thank the lord bush is finally gone."
and to that i say hear hear.
- Its indeed a sign that US EU relations are completely restored. Which I find very nice.Corvo2
- not saying he deserves it though.xcarlx
- corvo, you think they are completely restored? really? where do you live...zenmasterfoo
- Politically, yes. I think they are restored. In reality... there's no reality :) That's what this means, isn't it?Corvo2
- They are not. Obama withdrew from the missile interception system plans.raf
- That's not a critical diplomatic problem, is it?Corvo2
- pascii0
didn't he win a guinness record last year?
- but..but..he killed a fly! On TV!!!TheBlueOne
- Did he ask for it?Corvo2
- AHAHAH @tboCorvo2

This is really interesting from a certain perspective. American rightwing partisans say "He doesn't deserve this, he is letting the muslim win! He's emboldening America's enemies..." (yeah, I just spent ten minutes reading comments at Fox News...)..but the Taliban made an announcement condemning it, Iran was kinda half-and-half..the Israelis, who the rightwing in the US love to protect, are quite happy with Obama's win. The Kenyans are happy, Pakistan not so much...I mean, what a weird mix of sentiments all around..nothing is ever so black and white, eh?
- Excellent point, it's funny to see who is agreeing with the conservatards.DCDesigns
- jteore0
He deserves it considering the mess he has to clean up
- bulletfactory0
*waiting for the rightwing to link ACORN to the win.
- Corvo20
rumour has it, they're planning to mosh him in the war room.
- hellojeehae0

- cheers for you...now go home.zenmasterfoo
- did you ask for it?TheBlueOne

"The president had not been mentioned as among front-runners for the prize, and the roomful of reporters gasped when Thorbjorn Jagland, chairman of the Nobel committee, uttered Obama's name.
Nominations for the prize had to be postmarked by February 1 -- only 12 days after Obama took office. The committee sent out its solicitation for nominations last September -- two months before Obama was elected president."
- Etype0
so what he proved he was worthy in 12 days?
- Khurram0
I don't know why i'm sticking up for him. I asked for it.
- TheBlueOne0
I don't get this at all. Unless, like I said this is an ACORN plot to induce live on TV aneurysms to the news anchors and show hosts at Fox news...
- Now THAT'D be worth a prizelocustsloth
- HAHAHAHA yes it would! I am sure Rush is about to blow!!!!DCDesigns

You can't deny that he is an "inspiring" figure tho, would any other US president ever be greeted with the rapturous welcome in the MIddle East like he was? Wot with all them Egyptian students chanting his name and that.
That's pretty overwhelming summat innit. I mean, he's too right-wing for MY political tastes, but still tho, if Nobel peace prizes are mediocre to begin with (i mean, Jerry Adams got one ffs), then he may well be the most eminent mediocrity.
- Khurram0
I think, deep down, you "liberal" Americans are scared that this is just more grist for the millstone for the right-wing press to make fun of you and that innit.
- Actually, yes. You are correct.TheBlueOne
- Dead on.DrBombay
- Agreed.DCDesigns

At some point people have to stop giving him a pass and saying "well look at what he had to clean up!".
Blaming Bush for Obamas failures, will only last so long. At some point the media will have to take a look at what he is actually doing ..and that would be NADA! Just giving speeches and causing chaos!- You know, your last two sentences are as equally disingenious as people who say he deserves it.TheBlueOne
- "causing chaos" is the main prerequisite for the Nobel....
... or is that for the Legion of Doom Prize?bulletfactory - And trying to reduce nukes and being a fucking diplomat around the World again.DrBombay

In other categories, others have accomplished something and years later judge on the impact of the invention, study or work.
There should be no award for potential impact.
- detritus0
does not agree with this.
He's the sodding President - his raison d'etre is to do Good things.
Post-Bush Euro-lobby PR middle finger, imo.
