what a farce
he's been awarded it because he has "captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future"
oh, that's alright then, never mind that he hasn't actually achieved anything....
joke

Unless the Europeans are so pissed off at the percentage of redneck Americans who constantly harp on Europe..because if that's the case this would piss off that particular contingent of Americans so much they might die of sudden aneurysms.
"Ah so you call us pussies, make fun of our health care system and don't like the french or the swedes or our fried potato products? Ha! We'll give your president a prize! For nothing! And all the world will love him! Yes! Ha!"
Those Europeans - cunning, wily and a bit cruel.
Because that's the only rationale I see that even makes the remotest bit of sense here...

Well maybe the idea is to put some pressure on the US Pres.
- Huh. Well that's a positive way of looking at it. Could work.TheBlueOne

Alright everyone one, calm down... Obama wants you to be at peace

When he was elected I said here that it was only a matter of time people would start treating him like they treat Bono now.
- he's like bono with a nuclear stockpileTheBlueOne

Meanwhile Biden is awaited in Poland and Czech Republic shortly. After recent cancellation of Bush rocket intercepting radars/launchers he's supposedly coming with a new hardware offer.

I haven't read the award but maybe it was his efforts on getting a nuclear agreement, for fostering new relations with old enemies (russia) which have profound strategic impact on the global negotiations on Iran etc,
fuck it. even Chavez said stuff is better in America and the UN since Obama has arrived.
these are largely strategic but long-term and profound changes.
- lowimpakt0
it is an award of support for the future rather than memories of the past.

Bono should get the prize.
I hear he works with kids in Africa and stuff.. posing for pictures with them and everything.
Now THAT, my firends...

Yeah, i agree with lowimpakt, he speaks what i'm thinking. I don't think he's god or anyfink but he's created a remarkable turnaround in the belligerent global atmosphere that was left after Bush. Credit him for that, c'mon!

Make Nobel Peace Prize history
- three us presidents have been given the award ...no history here folks just premature politics.zenmasterfoo

Actually I don't think it's a bad decision. You can nitpick Obama's policies in different areas but one thing that he has promoted consistently even since he was in college I think is nuclear disarmament.
I mean, yeah, it might be premature, but what will have a more positive impact, awarding it to another diplomat somewhere, or giving it to Obama, creating this big news story and raising the issue in peoples minds? I think that's the rationale here.
- If they're going to give out the prize, it might as well have an impact.ukit

Bono. I heard him add words to "have you come here to play Jesus?" lyric line in "One" on stage this Summer.
It was something like "cause I have"
Funny guy he is, Bono.

Ok, so after the initial surprise effect, we're realizing that its not an achievement award but a to-do list.

lol all i can think of is Sideshow Bob getting arrested for 'attempted murder' and saying that no one ever won a nobel prize for 'attempted literature'..
i guess - you can win one for 'attempted peace' .. i guess.
has he even attempted peace?
- Amicus0
I think this is really premature. Morgan Tsvangirai is much more deserving at this stage.
Tsvangirai has risked his life fighting the oppression of a deranged, blood thirsty dictator. He's survived at least 3 assassination attempts, multiple arrests and torture resulting in him being admitted to Intensive Care.
He keeps fighting for democratic reforms, and I find that much more inspiring than any of Obama's speeches – as good as they admittedly are. Obama's legacy will be judged by history, and we are yet to see the effects of any of his policies.
We should let history be the judge.

What the fuck, Obama isn't cool anymore? He's been cool for what, 6 months and now you guys are already tired... He's one of the best president since a long time. Are you missing Bush or what?
I don't understand people.
- hellojeehae0
lol you are suppose to ALWAYS hate the president. DUHhhh
