Another problem is, the nobel prize committee voted on this award in Feb 2009. Therefore he had been in office for two months.

How do yo come to the conclusion that a man who is killing pakistanis, iraqi's and afghans, not to mention the covert wars in South America and his goal to dissent Americans who challenge his marxist communist beliefs and compulsive lies. Congratulations, you have done tremendous things for mankind and you are now awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

I think Gore had something to do with this, another fraud who took something he didnt deserve.

The past decade of winners. Personally i think it should have gone to the guy who invented 100 calorie packs. He's saving the world from obesity 100 calories at a time.

2009 - U.S. President Barack Obama for efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.

2008 - Former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari for peace work from Namibia to Kosovo.

2007 - Former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

2006 - Muhammad Yunus and Bangladesh's Grameen Bank for work to end poverty.

2005 - The International Atomic Energy Agency and its head Mohamed ElBaradei.

2004 - Kenyan environmentalist Wangari Maathai.

2003 - Iranian human rights lawyer Shirin Ebadi.

    2002 - Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

2001 - The United Nations and Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

    2000 - South Korean President Kim Dae-jung.

    • or at least making us open three bags at a timescarabin
    • give it to the guy who invented those 5 hour energy drinks. god bless him.k0na_an0k

Dr. Bombay - you again are in error - Mikhail Borbachev became the First Secretary of the Stavropol City Komsomol Committee in 1956. So he had 34 years of political experience showing commitment to bringing peace notably "On 8 April 1985, he announced the suspension of the deployment of SS-20s in Europe as a move towards resolving the intermediate-range nuclear weapons (INF) issues. In the same year, he proposed that the Soviets and Americans both cut their nuclear arsenals in half." And "In November 1988, Gorbachev announced full withdrawal of Soviet forces from Afghanistan."

That was 5 years before they awarded him the NPP - please read up on your history before you open your mouth.

    • what has Obama done to deserve the NPP?shinpo
    • I dont think you get it. It's not about HIM, it's about our new leadership and the world's acknowledgment of it.morilla
    • the world acknowledges you installed a new ruler in tern so you get a prize ! USA USA!zman
    • lol @ zmans commentshinpo
    • just stating the fact, like it or not.morilla
    • does that mean we can get a NPP just by mere affiliation with a leadership with having nothing to do with merit?shinpo
    • Look at how pissed you are about this. Last week the olympics, this week NPP you are an emotional rollercoasterDrBombay

^ so as you can see Mikhail Gorbachev was awarded on things he did not on things he was going to do - unlike Obama.

  • shinpo0

The two above posts have nothing to do with liking or disliking Obama, but rather the questions WTH has he done to deserve the NPP?

Agot Valle, a Norwegian politician and member of the five-person Nobel committee that chose this year’s winner, said the choice of President Barack Obama was primarily related his stance on nuclear disarmament.

“There is a criticism about the war in Afghanistan, and I understand that,” said Valle in a telephone interview. “But this was primarily an award on his work on and commitment to nuclear disarmament – and his dialogue. Of course there will be criticism, because he hasn’t achieved his goals yet. It will take time, but this is a support.”

Valle said the committee last met on Oct. 5, and that the decision to choose Obama was unanimous, especially after Sept. 24, when Obama became the first sitting U.S. president to chair a U.N. Security Council summit-level meeting. At that meeting, the Security Council passed a resolution calling for a strengthened Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty ahead of negotiations on the issue with Iran in Geneva.

“That strengthened his name, so to say,” Valle said. “It’s a challenge to him, of course, to continue going on in this way.”

She said she hoped the award would help Obama get the U.S. to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and aid him in progressing on climate change in Copenhagen. She added that she supported Obama’s recent decision to drop U.S. plans for a missile-defense shield in Central Europe. “He is giving hope to people who believe in dialogue instead of threats of using military tools,” she said.

Earlier, at the Nobel press conference, committee chairman Thorbjørn Jagland defended the choice of Obama.

“If you look at the history of the Nobel Peace prize, we have, on many occasions, tried to enhance what many personalities are trying to do,” he said. “For instance, when Willy Brandt got the prize back in the 1970s. He launched Ostpolitik in Europe, which was so important to what happened in Europe many years later. For instance, giving the prize to Mikhail Gorbachev, who changed the world completely. And now to President Obama, who is contributing to improve the international climate.”

again i want to stress that Henry Kissinger recieved a Nobel Peace Prize.. So lets see what it takes to get that award:

His entire wiki page is nothing but WAR:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hen…

Kissinger was the "most frequent visitor" to the George W. Bush White House as an unofficial political adviser on Israel and the Middle East—including the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Kissinger is criticized and even accused of war crimes for the policies he promoted during the Vietnam war and for his role in the establishment of dictatorial regimes in Latin America (see chapters on Vietnam, Chile, Argentine and Accusations of War Crimes).

    Some of his Peace Quotes:

"The security of Israel is a moral imperative for all free peoples. "

"The Vietnam War required us to emphasize the national interest rather than abstract principles. What President Nixon and I tried to do was unnatural. And that is why we didn't make it. "

"You can't make war in the Middle East without Egypt and you can't make peace without Syria. "

"The US must carry out some act somewhere in the world which shows its determination to continue to be a world power."

“He wants a massive bombing campaign in Cambodia. He doesn’t want to hear anything. It’s an order, it’s to be done. Anything that flies, on anything that moves. You got that? “

What about Al Gore did he deserve the NPP for his views on Climate Change? Did you ever hear about Irena Sendler?

She was a NPP nominee the same year as Al Gore (2007). Here is her story.

There recently was a death of a 98 year-old lady named Irena. During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an 'ulterior motive' ... She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews, (being German.) Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried and she carried in the back of her truck a burlap sack, (for larger kids..) She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.. During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants. She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it and reunited the family. Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted. In 2007 she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, but Al Gore won for a slide show on Global Warming.

Did he deserve it? Did you also know that there were 203 nominees this year for the NPP. The most ever. Are you really saying that it was okay for Obama to win b/c European countries support him as our leader?

Again this has nothing to do with Obama, but more the NPP committee electing someone who has not done a thing for peace. We don't know the names of the other 202 candidates, but what if someone in the candidates actually did something for peace instead of promising to do something?

I don't care anyway you slice it - I don't think he should have won. Especially not yet.

  • PonyBoy0

i haven't done shit this year either... when do I get MY award?
