A considerable number of my friends (designers) have made the switch to PC recently. I'm curious, is that something any of you are experiencing??
Mac fanboys stay out of this, i'm not trying to start that boring ol' war again ;)

easier to design web sites using a pc, as you working with most users native platform, that could be one reason.

I've been working on a PC for ever,
if you use keyboard shortcuts while working in any adobe programs,
using a pc may greatly increase your speed,
mac keyboard shortcuts are kinda retarded..
es: not having the possibility to use shift or arrows to select a save mode or just go through the dialogs without using the mouse- at work I use a mac though.GeorgesII
- this can all be done on a mac as well, with the same ease of use.Jordy

I've done
pc > mac > pc > mac and am now about to migrate back to a PC.
i agree with the shortcuts, but think mac have some real nice features however these as a development tool pc wins for me.If Mac was a decent dev tool there would be a hash key on the keyboard. But its simple and a rock solid OS. I cant complain about that.

i was a die hard mac user, but recently installed the windows 7 beta on boot camp on the old mac pro.
i have since found my self using windows 7 much more often. It just seems like CS3 works faster in Windows, and I find being more able to maximize windows allows you to ignore distractions and get more done.

really jordy,
open photoshop,
-------
- stop using your mouse, only keyboard now,
-----------
command + o, make it let say 300 dpi using only the keyboard,
you can't it only goes in the writable area
-------
let say you manage to open it,
now click command + s
use shift + s, choose the image format lets say jpg,
you can't,
you have to use your mousethis is where I fail to understand the lust for the mac OS, yes its shiny, but If I have to always use a mouse to do half of my work, i'm kinda lost
- some of us don't like using keyboardsribit
- its about speed, not keyboard,
do you prefer typing looking at the letters or learning to type?GeorgesII - nonsense you can tab to the file format and use ctrl + down arrowInfirm
- I don't know what your talking about, maybe you just never bothered enough to learn how OSX works. I just opened an image (Cmd + O), Made it a different DPI (Cmd + Option + I) , Use the tab keys and number pad to change the numbers and jump to different feilds, Now Save as (Cmd + Shift + S) Hit enter. Done. I would rather use the mouse along with the short cuts to save time. Have fun working with just the keyboard.syst_m
- Ah, got cut off. Well I just did it without the mouse. Why you would wanna do that IDK.syst_m
- Have fun using just your keyboard on a PC. Maybe you can run your spy-ware programs with your mouse too.syst_m

also, i do mostly 3d work...the options for osx are very limited in comparison.

Yeah, i use one, but because i do video and video is almost exclusively on Macs nowdays i'm really considering switching. Has absolutely nothing to do with OS preference (actually since i'm more familiar with PCs i prefer Windows), it's just you gotta sometimes follow the sheep.

i'm using a mac now in work. with windows 7 on it.
quite like it so far. except the anti aliased fonts.

i work in-house, and a web based company... so kinda have to use a pc. there's no mac IT guy, and i'll be fecked if i'm gonna spend days trying to figure out why I cant see any printers..
and for home, I refuse to spend £2,200 on a fast machine, when a £800 pc has the same spec.. and can take games... and you can find cracked software... and your geek mates can help you with problems..

2 hours, only 10 responses. i would say that's pretty low.
wonder what the platform stats for qbn are?jagara: in response to your original post, i'd say people i know seem to be switching to mac. friends, who traditionally had PC's at work, pc's at home, got iphones and ipods and decided to get a macbook to complete the look.
it also helps that i've you've been using a cheap shit PC and switch to mac the difference is amazing. but that's because you can't buy shit macs (new)!

"as a development tool pc wins for me."
If you think that you're probably using Dreamweaver, nothing on the PC can compete with Textmate and the Mac scripting environment- e is the same dude!trooperbill
- PSPad pro does a pretty good job.plash

I use a mac 90% of the time, but also have a pc that I mainly use for testing. If you do anything web related I think it's very important to have both.

A PC is good for development testing, but OSX is far better for development (at least as far as getting a true LAMP or Rails setup is concerned). It can also run photoshop, so this is why I use it over linux.
I think OSX is a shoddy piece of crap though. My 8 year old PC at home, running XP, is far more stable than both my macs - just slower.
Sick of the 'finder' and it's crap. It can't even find anything correctly. CMD+F in the folder I want to search, and it defaults to searching "This Mac". Bullshit. Just another item in a long line of annoying osx "features".
Linux needs adobe.
- re: find in current folder, they fixed this 10.6, you can set that as the default, finally!acescence

... and littering my websites with invisible ._ files is annoying as fuck.

i love my pc. my home server is my bff. I've made the switch around 5 years ago and wow. not saying anything bad about apple; i love my ipod too but as far as production environment; XPSP3, XAMPP local server and a LAMP machine.my win2k has been running for 10 years. seen it crash once (after a power outage)
@moth: totally agree with you on the finder. sucks beyond belief. there is a new alternative to the windows search. Called "Everything" and it does just that. search everything in a matter of seconds. predictive text, instant results and a small mem footprint. http://www.voidtools.com/
