Im gonna have to go with airey. Since when are mac users better designers? Maybe its true that a majority of designers use macs, but I am really not seeing how using illustrator/indesign/photoshop on a mac magically puts out better work. If you're shitty on a pc, you're shitty on a mac. This argument of pc vs mac should probably stay away from that area and just stick to os/hardware. I work on both and they have their negative and positives.
P.S. I hate vista, but I am looking foward to 7 if it's anything like xp, with that new xp compatibility mode.

i tried going back to a PC at work, to get a quiet office. Didn't last more than half a morning

it was rough previewing work, just everything seemed backwards

Sigh... you guys, i'm a Mac owner...and i have no intentions of switching to PC, i was just wondering. And now i will leave this war forever, and go install Gimp on my new stationary Linux-based terminal.

for designing, a mac may be better - i wouldn't know. but for developing, it's a horrible platform. the documentation for carbon/cocoa is very poor. there are rarely examples provided. api's are CONSTANTLY being deprecated. and worst of all, there aren't a lot of venues for support. there's like one or two good forums and an apple dev mailing list. if they can't help you, or choose not to respond, you're fucked. in addition, xcode is a horrible IDE. it would take some time to explain the problems, but for an operating system who's strength is supposedley it's intuitive interface, having to manually use the mouse to move between the Find and Replace textboxes in a Search/Replace dialog instead of just using a Tab key is ridiculous.
now, for watching movies, playing music or surfing the web, i can't complain. and i'm sure there are a ton of other useful fun tasks it can do well. like printing pretty pictures. i'm sure they made that a snap.
windows might not do everything right either, but if they know one thing it's development. visual studio is the perfect editor and msdn is chock full of examples of their api (most of which are still around from windows 95). and googling almost any api call will result in pages of results rather than a link or two.
i've written all this is to underline the point that inevitably gets made in every mac/pc discussion: it's (the computer) just a specialized tool and tools work better for some uses than others.

Apple = design, art, anything creative
PC = programming, accounting, anything with viruses

I like Win 7 much better. I'm back on Vista since June and what annoys me the most is the file classification. Apparently, the most important thing I would want to know when browsing a folder with 100+ files in it isn't "Last Date Modified" or "Classify by file type" Nah it's 5 stars rating! Because of course, I am going to keep alot of files i'd rate 1/5 stars on my hard drive. And don't get me started about files being classified in several collumns instead of just one.
Anyway, Win7 let's me actually chose how I want my files sorted so that I can find what I'm looking for fast, and I love it. I dislike Vista because the interface is too distracting instead of being useful. I love the PC system as is. All I want is a FASTER computer, I don't give a crap about the rest.

Switched over again to the RC1 version....it is badass. It runs perfect and takes up way less resources than Vista. The "sneak peak" and other new features are sweet. Finally a win for Microsoft.

I dont know if it's because I didn't buy Ultimate Vista, but with both 64 bits and it showing 8GB RAM, none of the adobe products register above 3GB under Vista- 64. They see all 8 just fine under Win7
- I think the most Adobe products can utilise it 3GB. A large scratch disk is better than ram for Adobe stuff.Jnr_Madison
- It seems to make a difference when I feed it 7GB ram (which is the most it detects)Redmond

Yeppers! Just built myself an E8600! 570$ to upgrade from dual 2,2Ghz to 3.3Ghz. Not only are the parts smaller they're also more silent. it's a dream!
Has anyone tried solid state drives yet? I was considering using one as my main drive.

"Stupid user base aside, I will never own a Mac. It's not so much that I'm a PC loyalist. I'm not. It's that I'm not stylish enough to own one. Most iPod commercials feature guys with long hair, chicks roller skating, and guys wearing fedoras. I have dandruff, and I buy most of my jeans from a grocery store. I feel like in order to have a Mac, I need to be:
An artist.
In a band.
Unemployed (see above)."- hahahahaMeeklo
