RadioShack is the latest older, "legacy" brand to try to put a cool, hip spin on itself. The 88-year-old electronics outfit will re-introduce itself Thursday as just "The Shack" — at least in its ads.
The retail chain is spending a big chunk of its $200 million ad budget for this year on new TV and digital ads to introduce The Shack as its name for advertising and marketing purposes. Signs outside of stores will remain RadioShack. The company hopes to hold onto to its brand heritage and attract more tech-savvy shoppers.

"The Shack" doesn't exactly scream tech-savy.

haha yea i was very confused by this commercial so you just wanna be called "The Shack" but your not changing your signs... oooookay.
Didn't Pizza Hut wanna change to The Hut or something, reminds me of that, and it sounds more like a bodega, not a tech-savy place.

Has Shaq tweeted angrily about this?

they should have gone with just "Radio"

I mean "The Shack" sounds like a burger joint that bad child tv actors hang out at...
But then again, I never shop at Radio Shack anyway because their sales help is generally clueless and rude and they have enormous stocks of badly made cheap indonesian electronics. I just called it "Radio Suck"..now I guess it'll just be "The Suck".
- This pretty mush sums up all the worthwhile points on the matter.marychain

Maybe they should put that $200M toward getting some knowledgable staff, and not selling garbage... just a thought.

they can shorten it a bit more by loosing the ‘s’ as well.

I went in to a "The Shack" a while back and the clerk was soooo stupid I had to walk out. I was trying to find some LEDs and he had no idea what I was talking about. Then when looking for a power supply he proceeded to "test" several phone chargers and AC plugs on the LED by placing, with BARE hands, the leads onto the live plugs (no resistors either). I couldn't believe this guy. Luckily he didn't fry himself.
My theory is the guys that work at "The Shack" and the guys that work at "U-Haul" are related. Both sets are geniuses.

How is RadioShack even in business still. Doesn't everyone buy thier batteries and piece of crap remote controlled cars at Walmart now?
