I always like seeing the actual work. otherwise...what's the point?
- so the second version isnt "actual work"??? it is. and it's presented clearer and better.iCanHazQBN

I like the second one.

as everyone has said, the second is better with the adjustments to be made... also, I'd try dropping a mid-dark grey [70% black] in behind things, but it depends on how you're doing your folio, it'll help make these predominantly whiter projects pop a bit more, but you risk things feeling a tad repetitive.. that said, if you're mixing photos of details for 'feel shots' it should be fine...
- alternate with a lighter grey background for the darker projects...neue75_bold

I might vary the shadows slightly from spread to spread so that it feels like it's been photographed. As it is, you've got the same shadow applied to each one.
It's a small thing, but I think it'll help.
- i thought about doing this too, great tip :) thankyouantoine_101

on the white background, the ai shadows look better. you could use photos if there was a background ... i'd say.

The shadows are too dark & too big in my opinion.

There is something weird with your shadows.
The gradients on the pages say the light comes from the top RIGHT corner.
The shadows on the white background say the light comes from the top LEFT corner.
Does that make sense ?

second one.
I'm currently doing EXACTLY the same thing :)

also make sure when your gradients overlap images [to show the split of the spreads] that that area is actually a darker gradient than on just the white.. you know what I mean?

you must had know which one before as you didn't have the images in the same size. huh! lol.
- sorry, i dont understand what you mean? one photographed them, the other flat jpgs with vector shadows in .ai. these are not final sizes as this is just a test for nowantoine_101
- THE SIZE OF THE IMAGES ARE WAY OFF. YOU NOT GIVING THEM A FAIR GAME.akrokdesign

yeah second version.
but if any of your printed work has nice foils or embossing then i'd include photos of the final thing with some nice lighting.
