I've never understood why people on the tube hold up trains as they've jammed the doors open. THERE'S A TRAIN FOLLOWING IN 1 MIN!!

This guy makes an argument FOR running red lights on a bike: http://joey-bike.blogspot.com/20…
also:
Personally, I'll run a red when it's obviously clear in all directions. At busy intersections I will slow/stop, watch both ways and cross on the crosswalk. Most of the time it is SAFER for me to ride ahead of the traffic at each light, rather than to fight for room with them on the green light.
- ********0
I would feel no remorse if I hit a dude who ran a red. I would probably even get out of my car and trash his bike just on principle.

i drive around for an extra 10 - 15 minutes on my drive home looking for bikers to run over. The douches without brakes or gears are first on my list.

ok time to hate on the fix gear riders now I have one and I'm an avid cyclist but they are some idiots out there.
A few days ago I saw some hipster with hot pink mags on his fix gear with a matching hot pink scarf that had to walk up a hill because he had taken all the gears of his bike and was out of shape from smoking and drink pbrs.- HAHA********

lol at the hate i got for my post
i dont hate all cyclists, and i use my bike a lot in edinburgh too - but i follow the laws when i'm on it.
it's the same d*cks that i see day in day out on the same route that i know have cut me up or shot lights that i'll inconvenience by tucking in to the kerb or parked cars, not just any random cyclist.
theres many a time the green man has been showing and i've went to step out to cross the street and a cycylist has shot through and just missed me, as far as i'm concerned i'm quite entitled to either shout something or stick in the boot if i got the opportunity. just as i'd do the same if it was a car that shot through a red light and the green man - they'd probably get a coin or lighter from my pocket thrown through their window or a boot in one of the panels.
same would go with a pedestrian, if someone was barging down a street knocking into folk as they did then they are just asking for someone to retaliate when they got knocked, no?
i understand the anger of cyclists to drivers, especially busses and taxi's. i've seen quite a few innocent couriers hit by cars or taxi's and just left and pedestrians have ran to their assistance.
but if i witnessed the cyclist doing something illegal then being hit as a consequence (or indeed a driver doing something wrong and being hit) then yup, i'd just be like "d*ck! serves you right!"- if a cyclist comes close enough to you for you to sock him, then go for it. Fair game.********

you can bet its all cyclists who have commented on that.i've toyed with the idea of starting a site for shopping cyclists shooting red lights and green men where people could post up photos of cyclists breaking the law.
it really is a pet hate of mines like.so, to the cyclists ....
WHY is it you do it?
WHY do you break the law?
WHY do you risk your and other peoples safety?- Read this for a partial explanation http://joey-bike.blo…Kidswift

there is nothing worse than a elitist, hard core cyclist. I don't owe you shit. Shotgun to the face. Along with those crazy dog lovers. You know what ones I am talking about.
- 23kon0
i woke up this morning and this post was on my mind and had to add this lol. (sad?)
bottom line, if im a pedestrian and i about knock someone over then i'd expect them to retaliate or at least give me some verbal.
if im on my bike and i break the law and hit someone or nearly hit someone then i'd readily expect some verbal or some retribution.
if im in my car and i nearly hit someone or if i ever clipped someone then i'd more than expect some verbal or a boot in one of the panels.if you guys who are cyclists who think they HAVE a right to break the law or f*ck people off without any form of retribution then thats just wrong and you's are seeing yourselves as above everyone else or "eletist" as someone else said in this thread.
and i cant see how you's see otherwise or what makes you's so special to have these rights. sorry :P

Why not have tests for cyclists like other road users? In cities bikes are often the fastest form of transport, otherwise courier companies wouldn't use them. As it is any old fuckbutton can go and buy a bike and become an instant menace to everyone on the streets.
And for any London cyclists who think they have it bad. I went everywhere on 2 wheels for years in London with all the usual cab/bus/people/ frustrations. Then I tried cycling in Sydney... I'd rather frame myself for drug trafficking than try that again.
- haha oh my GOD!! I've driven in Sydney and that was bad enough!! Cycling.. no thaaaanks!!!!********

Ok, cars don't treat us like vehicles. They force us off the road, they overtake us and then turn left, forcing us to slam on the brakes, they overtake us and then stop without leaving space for us to overtake them again, they hoot and rev up right behind us if we try to cycle in the middle of the road.
So we are not vehicles.
Pedestrians walk out in front of us in busy roads as though we don't exist. They cross through RED PEDESTRIAN LIGHTS en masse as long as there are no cars, forcing us to screech to a halt. They walk nonchalantly in the middle of cycle paths, causing us to stop.
So what are we? vehicle? no. Pedestrians? no. WE ARE CYCLISTS!! We are halfweay between the two, and should..and do.. have our own set of rules, whether you like it or not. And believe me if you lot of whingers got off your fat arses and tried it, you'd realise that it's actually really difficult and frustrating, and that tiptoeing through the odd light ONCE IT'S SAFE TO DO SO is the least we should be allowed. I do get pissed at the couriers who literally shoot through, but most of us do it when it's safe, and at a very reasonable pace. I apologise if it LOOKS like we're hurtling towards you, but believe me after a lifetime of cycling we know if we're going to hit someone or not. I've been doing it for my whole life and have NEVER hit anyone, except for.. surprise surprise, a guy who walked out into the middle of a hight street without looking at all.
zing.

Loving this. This thread will probably never die.
I think the cyclists commenting here are sounding much more reasoned and sane than those arguing for the other side.

The worse thing about the red light jumpers is that they are usually lazy and slow. So after risking my life to over take them, one finds the stupid fools then over taking the law abiding soul as he/her awaits the red light.
One is forced to then risk life and limb again as the lights turn to green and the honest cyclist is forced yet again to over take the slow legged empty headed pedlar.
Thrusting oneself deeper into the middle of the road, into the brain damaging target range of vans, buses and cars - all because some jelly legged hipster has failed to grasp the concept of the highway code.
They should be shot at birth! There should be public hangings. That would soon sieve the shrimps from the prawns.
- vespa0
i'm hoping all the nobs in here saying cyclists should be shot at birth etc have just got internets disease, the symptoms of which include typing arseholish opinions just to get a point across.
i ride a bike every day and i watch out for pedestrians and cars alike.
many car drivers actively hate cyclists or are just ignorant, they tuck right into the kerb even if it's a marked cycle route. If this happens I go on the pavement. It takes effort to ride a bike and I don't want to lose my momentum because some car driving idiot has assumed they own the road. YES i always watch out for pedestrians and give them right of way.
i run certain red lights on a route that I know very well, when there are no cars or people. i do this because i will get in the way of the cars and hold them up if I try to turn right just after these particular lights.
on monday i fell off my bike because i'd just had my brakes serviced and they were sharper than i expected going down a hill. i rode my bike home to get cleaned up and was riding slower than normal because i was a bit shaken up and also covered in grease and cuts and bruises.
a white van driver was pissed off that I was riding too slow and he couldn't get past, starts driving up my arse and blaring his horn at me, which nearly knocked me off again, so i shouted "what's wrong with you??" at him, he stops his van and starts shouting "come back here and say that!" (i tucked into a one way street to get away from him), i said he nearly ran me over and he was all like come back here and i'll give it a go, etc etc
I mean WHAT is the point of being so aggressive towards cyclists on the road? We are all people, we are all using the roads.
stop the stupid pointless hatred!
- you missed my point - i'm saying cyclists who don't follow the rules of the road not only invite contempt from other road users but put their fellow cyclists at risk - as i mentioned, they are often too slow, and over taking other cyclists is a risky business - and it's ever so annoying when after risking my life to over take them, they then glide past at a red light, moments later i'm risking my life again to over take them...felizfeliz
- i dont hate cyclists, but i do hate the ones who are knobs and break the law23kon

When I moved house a few years ago in London in began riding to work on my flatmates bmx because the transport links were a pain in the ass. I hadn't rode a bmx for about 8 years and thought I still had the skills to perform tricks. Well, I was riding along Blackstock Road towards Finsbury Park when I approached a huge line of traffic and thought f*ck this, pavement jobbie! I tried to bunny hop up the curb onto the empty pavement and by-pass it all. Unfortunately my back tire clipped the curb and I flipped over the handle bars and landed flat on my back. I got up promptly, bowed to the school kids pissing themselves laughing as they waited in the bus stop opposite and I rode off slightly embarrassed. Needless to say I quickly brushed up on my tricks (I mean obeyed the rules of the road ever since).

"When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race."
H.G. Wells&
"You see things vacationing on a motorcycle (read bicycle) in a way that is completely different from any other. In a car you’re always in a compartment and because you’re used to it you don’t realize that through that car window everything you see is just more TV. You’re a passive observer, and it is all moving by you boringly in a frame.
On a cycle the frame is gone. You’re completely in contact with it all. You’re in the scene, not just watching it anymore, and the sense of presence is overwhelming. That concrete whizzing by five inches below your foot is the real thing, the same stuff you walk on; it’s right there, so blurred you can’t focus on it, yet you can put your foot down and touch it anytime, and the whole thing, the whole experience, is never removed from immediate consciousness."
Robert Pirsig, Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance
