i'm hoping all the nobs in here saying cyclists should be shot at birth etc have just got internets disease, the symptoms of which include typing arseholish opinions just to get a point across.
i ride a bike every day and i watch out for pedestrians and cars alike.
many car drivers actively hate cyclists or are just ignorant, they tuck right into the kerb even if it's a marked cycle route. If this happens I go on the pavement. It takes effort to ride a bike and I don't want to lose my momentum because some car driving idiot has assumed they own the road. YES i always watch out for pedestrians and give them right of way.
i run certain red lights on a route that I know very well, when there are no cars or people. i do this because i will get in the way of the cars and hold them up if I try to turn right just after these particular lights.
on monday i fell off my bike because i'd just had my brakes serviced and they were sharper than i expected going down a hill. i rode my bike home to get cleaned up and was riding slower than normal because i was a bit shaken up and also covered in grease and cuts and bruises.
a white van driver was pissed off that I was riding too slow and he couldn't get past, starts driving up my arse and blaring his horn at me, which nearly knocked me off again, so i shouted "what's wrong with you??" at him, he stops his van and starts shouting "come back here and say that!" (i tucked into a one way street to get away from him), i said he nearly ran me over and he was all like come back here and i'll give it a go, etc etc
I mean WHAT is the point of being so aggressive towards cyclists on the road? We are all people, we are all using the roads.

- you missed my point - i'm saying cyclists who don't follow the rules of the road not only invite contempt from other road users but put their fellow cyclists at risk - as i mentioned, they are often too slow, and over taking other cyclists is a risky business - and it's ever so annoying when after risking my life to over take them, they then glide past at a red light, moments later i'm risking my life again to over take them...felizfeliz
