Is it ok to wear a blazer, jeans, and sneakers? Or do you always dress up? I know it depends on the company but I'm curious what you guys wear. Let the funny images begin...

i havn't been to an interview in years but i reckon if you're going for a designer/creative position you should avoid wearing a suit.
- I'm getting very different opinions on this. I hate wearing classic preppy suits. So I'm curious as to what I should wear for my next interview.spookykat

I wore a sans-pocket shirt, pin stripe trousers and suede low key skate shoes to my last interview and all was well.

Well what I wore was overkill on my last job interview. I got the job but I was wearing classic dress shirt, tie, suit jacket, black pants, and tied it off with dress shoes. I'm never dressing like that again.
The age old question is what is consider ok to wear if its a corporate. If its low-key studio type, I'll definitely dress down, I think the option of "anything goes" is one of the perks of being in the design field.
- I don't like wearing suits. I like Google's motto that you can do business without a suit.kgvs72

I wear a nice shirt, jacket, jeans and brown smart shoes. Always makes me feel like you have made an effort but looks cool and doesn't look over the top IMO.

wear what you would wear to work.

i always intend to wear a shirt and tie but at the last min feel its too much and end up wearing jeans, sneakers and a smart shirt and never been interviewed by anyone better dressed!
i guess it also depends if your going to an agency/in house interview.

Replace tie with truck-balls and you're hired.

Always dress up. Unless your reputation (Paul Rand, David Carson, Milton Glaser) speaks highly of you, you should dress up.

Dress up a little. NO jeans.
Wear a casual looking suit outfit.
How about a medium-light grey suit, with an untucked blue polo shirt. With tan suede shoes. No need to spend too much on it.

No jeans? Er, that's stiff. I work at a large interactive agency -- my interview I wore jeans, sneakers, and a completely unimpressive button-down shirt. The CD who had originally interviewed me was wearing jeans and a dirty carhartt hoodie. And when the ECD came in, he was wearing an affliction t-shirt and challenged me to a bench-press competition. (You know who you are).

there is no simple answer in our industry.
It depends on the attitude of the agency, and the position you are shooting for. If you are looking for art director spots, I'd wear something dressier then for a designer job. You never want to look too up-tight in the creative industry, so unless you are interviewing for the account side of things, skip the suit/tie. I have semi-long hair, so it makes dressing up look relatively hip no matter what I do. I usually wear either a really nice pair of dark denim jeans (with a belt!), nice (polished) loafers, and a nice button up with sleeves rolled.
