if you going to dj, get tech 1200/1210's. other wise, don't think its matter.

Juhls for your reference:
All vinyl comes in special packaging. And if you ever get to sit in a room set up for stereo space (a simple matter of positioning speakers the right distance apart and sitting or standing in the sweet spot) I absolutely guarantee you will hear the difference. If you have only ever listened to CDs and predominantly MP3's you will probably weep openly at the sound of proper music as opposed to that 'wasp in a paper bag' sound you have become used to.
- Thanks. I probably won't ever do this until I take music a bit more seriously though.juhls
- What I meant about the special package is what bands are selling nowadays. Packages with many things in them.juhls
- Vinyl is one of the many things they include in these special packages. I don't mean the look of the vinyl package, exactly.juhls
- Yes, please try to take music more seriously in future.
Thanks.

Jesus, reading this thread, I can't believe how many of you know nothing about decks... not even the ubiquitous and omnipresent Technics SL12s.
How much time HAS passed since I got old exactly?
- enough time that the 1200 aint king anymore. lots of other direct drive tables on the market that are better now.sublocked
- Nonsense at better than a 1200!duckofrubber

Horp, that's all a bunch of bullshit. I had vinyl for years and years, because that's what there was then. When CDs came out, everyone except maniacs ditched vinyl, because there is so much noise on vinyl, and most record players have speed problems that make them suck. The music sounds under water a lot of the time, and every smidge of dust makes a pop. Plus vinyl always has surface hiss of some kind, and the turntable motors aren't exactly quiet, so the noise floor on vinyl is not so good.
For a million years people argued about belt versus direct drive, and it was an absolute draw. They both have advantages and disadvantages.
If you listen to a good-quality MP3 on good equipment, it will sound better than the equivalent on vinyl. For one, there won't be so much surface noise and pops, and the thing won't skip if you move around a little bit. Plus you can listen to the MP3 in a car, on the bus, in your living room, etc. And you can easily carry a thousand songs in your shirt pocket. And a thousand tunes on vinyl will weigh more than most women can lift.
So, stop coming on all snobby and mighty and stop running people down for doing what they prefer.
- having converted most of my music to mp3, i will say some of it is MUCH richer on vinyl.sputnik2

I'm just trying to help you enjoy music more, pal. Take a few steps and climb into the 21st century, and you can spend more time listening, with higher quality, and have less stuff to schlub around.
I've lived vinyl. Most of us older folks who did were more than happy to ditch it when something better came along.
Same with carburetors, same with dog-walking old Chevys, same with no meat on Fridays, same with all the stores being closed on Sundays.
- Total rejection of the past is good then, is that my mantra for tomorrow?Horp

Well, thanks guys for all that informations. I conclude that turntable and vinyl is a large world and I dont know anything about it.
I never planned to buy a turntable but when I saw the price, 20$, I tought It was a super good offer. But I dont want to invest really for more. So, I will stick to it and play with what I already own. I will plug it in my Sony sound system and see what happend.

Do you mind boobs if I keep my 11000 piece vinyl collection, in the drawing room, with my Resolution Classics, and my bespoke made oak-casing bellows floorstanding speakers, and let you get on with mincing up glee street in your satin hotpants and your rollerblades, with Lady Gaga on your ipod?

Iam the kinf of guy who rip his CD in 320khz with no compression at all. I like good sounds. But sometimes the source is pure crap; best exemple is the last Metallica album. Many album are compressed for cheap devices and cheap headphones, so it sound like total shit on a good system. Last album of Matt & Kim, last album of Be Your Own Pet and last Metallica are some exemple.
How weird, people have never listen as much music as we do these days, we have the technology and people have never listen to so much crappy sound level. We are far away from the big wooden stereo of our parents.
After "video killed the radio stars" we can say "iPod killed the sound quality"
totally.

I think many people, mostly young people like jaline maybe, dont know what it is to listen to nicely produced music on a good stereo. Warm bass, no distortion, good balanced between lows and highs. You can rediscover an album just by listening to it on a good system.
And there's a big difference between listening without headphones on a stereo. I can't believe people use the cheap white hearbuds of Apple, this is the worst of the worst, you drop all the bass line.

I play my vinyl at a speed determined by my hand. I find that mere "mechanical" speed can not do justice to the intention of the artist.
- benfal990
Iam surfing on the Sony and Panasonic website and they dont sell stereo sound system anymore! Only one small cheap model of mini-stero... I think its all in the home cinema category now.
- benfal990
just curious, jaline, which headphones/earbuds are you using? Are you using a iPod Nano? Do you know what is the quality of your MP3s? like 128, 192 or 320khz
- juhls0
It's always above 192 (unless it's rare), and I try to buy nice earphones. Or stereo system.
