I keep hearing that XP will be obsolete by the summer of 2009. Is this just Windows big wigs trying to scare everyone into their new product?
Anyone use Windows 7 yet? I heard it was better than Vista. Gimme some feed back.
(ps no pc haters, I would love a mac but cant afford it since my last one broke)

I have XP pro, which I've boy-racered up to look like windows7. Plus a Leopard style dock.
I too have heard from unbiased sources that 7 is better, it'll be the next one I buy.

I am having a hell of a time on my XP install. Can you just install windows 7 over XP PRO
- format the drive first, and then install windows 7. Boot from the Windows 7 disc and it will do it for you.designbot

this is not true. microsoft JUST stopped supporting windows 3.1 a few months ago.
way too many people out there who still prefer xp over vista. microsoft knows this and they know pulling the plug could cost them, so don't worry - it won't happen.

I'm a Mac user who generally only uses Windows to test interactive projects. That being said, I installed the Windows 7 beta and LOVE it. I actually think they made lots of important improvements over Vista, mainly with the start menu/task bar and other. It's and pieces here and there.

hmmm, i'll have to check it out then. while i'm both a mac and windows user, i've been using windows for well over a decade and the vista experience for me was much worse than just performance-based issues.
things like start>run being gone, the address bar in explorer not using the 'c:\windows\system32' style path, the fuck-ugly window transparency effects, the horrible sound-effects. the confusing file copy/replace dialog, the use account control (UAC), ad nauseum.. oh and the performance sucked too!
windows 7 had better be really good.

I thought windows 7 hasn't been officially released yet? Is there somewhere I can get it and try it out? I'm getting desperate.

I'm currently using both Windows 7 beta and OS X (I'm a total mac guy - FYI)
If you're upgrading from XP - forget about Vista. (I find it's bloated and the UI lame - but that's just me). I think you'll like Windows 7. It's clean, light and the ribbon is really handy.
You'll need about a day to get used to where everything is, but for what it's worth - it's actually pretty good.

I downloaded the beta awhile back but haven't installed it yet.
I was reading CS4 doesn't work on it right now, anyone gotten it to work? That is my only hold up.
Read many articles that basically all say Windows 7 is a major improvement over vista. Everyone seems to be loving it so far. The touchscreen capabilities could change the way people use computers forever if it's embraced.

God I hope it works! I just want an OS that is reliable. The problems my office have with Vista and CS3 are a pain (freezing, crashing, ram issues, etc.).
Anyone know when it'll ship?

I've been using the precedent build since it came out and all I have to say is that it works really really well and its fast,
I'll wait untill it comes out officially to buy a copy for my laptop, for now I'm keeping xp on my working machine
