I know there's plenty of threads about camera in here but the search engine of QBN is... not as good as I would like it to be.
Well, I own a Canon Digital Rebel Xti that I bought in 2007. I found it too heavy and too big to bring it all around.
I'am looking for a smaller camera but I want the best quality as possible for a budget under 1500$.
I know some of you are real professional photographers, I would like to know your suggestions please.
thanks.

Good luck with that

prob the best pound for pound point and shoot.
- I haz itMal
- The LX3 is a great little camera. Not going to match the quality of the xti though. The Sigma DP1 or DP2 will get you closer, but absolutely no zoom and reportedly very slow.brian
- I have DP1, don't recco, lens too slow.robotron3k
- + sigma has NO ZOOM at all.. interesting .. but not necessarily good********
- thats a nice camerasureshot

Canon Powershot SX1IS
http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/…It's about $600. HIGHLY recommended.
You can get an inexpensive attachment so you can attach 58mm filters to it.

Mal, do you have pics on a website somewhere?

It all depends on what you really want. More Megapixels in a small chip, means more artifacts or grain. so somewhere along a ten megapixel camera that has a large chip sensor gives you great results.

ricoh gx100
ive posted up reason why in other qbn camera posts
i loves it and has replaced a whole bunch of lomo and other 35mm and medium format cameras of mines (which i just sold on ebay cos i hadnt used any since i got ricoh).the ricoh, sigma and lumix are all good cameras
they offer the capability of more control as a photographer rather than the £100-200 point and shoot cameras (although these can be used for it too). these cameras are the "second" or "spare" compact camera that professional photographers will carry around with them when they havent got their big DSLR's or as a backup.

Ben:
what you have is an SLR camera, and since its one of the economy/ consumer models its probably one of the smallest/ lighter cameras you will find. What you want is a point and shoot.
Since you shoot canon already, I'm going to go random and post thisCanon Elph. any model that is somewhat recent will do.
It looks like you have double or triple the budget for the camera you want so you could just pick the top of the line point and shoot and still have change left.
If you want to see the kind of photos any camera go to Flickr and do a Search By camera.
http://www.flickr.com/cameras/You will find random photos from both experienced and casual users.
Good luck!
