Pentagram was one of four design firms asked to “resurrect” the beleaguered Republican Party brand for an exercise in Newsweek’s special end-of-year issue, on newsstands now. Our concept, designed by Michael Bierut, makes use of the “re-” prefix to create a family of words that define the party’s core values and emphasize the power of transformation.“The two party system only works when you have two strong parties,” says Bierut, a lifelong Democrat. “This theme isn’t meant to redefine the GOP — another appropriate ‘re’ word — but simply provide a context for that redefinition. The party of Lincoln deserves it.”
-- Its well done but I would think it required perceptive brand work along with the graphic change. Why do I also think communist?

They should switch to an Octopus since they've got all their hands in everyone's pockets.

I think it's great, love the communist red and the tiny black elephant.

Pentagram's take is by far the best idea. The other ones are totally ridiculous.

yeah Pentagram´s one is the best so far, but I guess just for
designer´s eyes? no? isn´t it to modern/minimalistic for the cowboys?

I see a ton of parodies on Pentagrams that can be executed.
- repugnant, reneg, revisionist, rediculous... like shooting fish in a barrel.monNom

I think resurrecting the brand is least of the republicans problems.

my senior thesis 3 years ago was all about re: and even used serif and sans fonts when breaking up words to redefine the Cincinnati Parks
lame.

The Pentagram attempt's the only half-decent one, but reminds me too of Communism and the Marxist left. It's REminiscent of every student-funded leftist rag over here. That said, I like the way they've maintained the basic Republican logo (I hate it when design companies feel the need to re-invent the wheel - 'stoo easy a path) and like the sans/serif bridge.
Nice work.. if it weren't quite so China.

I like Pentagram's take. The rest are suck.
I think we need a viable third party option for people who are pro-life, yet against preemptive strikes; who are pro-environment, yet against big government. As far as I know, there is no such thing, not even close. I think in the post-Bush world, there are a lot of disenchanted Republicans who would spring for such a party. Until then, I despair for our government and electoral system.
- How's about just allowing those others who want to be 'anti-life' be so, and go vote Democrat?Nairn
- have you heard of Ron Paul?DeSiard
- I can't in good conscience vote Democrat, as long as that party puts forth pro-choice candidates.gramme
- < Does Paul really fit this profile? At any rate, I was talking about a viable third party, not someone on the fringe.gramme
- Call me a one-issue voter, but as much as I want to save the baby seals, baby humans matter much more.gramme
- *opens can of worms
*peers inside
*passes out from the smellgramme - they're called independentsdoesnotexist
- Are there not viable reasons for pro-choice??? eg. Rape, Extreme Poverty, Disease (mother or baby) Age? I'm pro-life sorta, but wouldn't want to be the product of rape etcAmicus
- I'm pro-life (sorta) but I wouldn't want to be the product of rape, or have parents that were too old, or addicted etc...Amicus
