In theory it's great and often worth it, but be warned. Using the term "organic" (in the U.S. anyway) is not as highly regulated as other foods and labels by the FDA. That means that someone could have a food product that is made entirely from mass produced processed ingredients. Toss in one leaf of basil from a regular garden and that can be called "organic."

right, in america, it doesn't mean much, if you are going to do it you are better off buying from a co-op.
- Good call. Farm co-ops are pretty neat and cost effective. Buy a share or part of a share and enjoy mounds of veg.harlequino

Yes
organic is better for you and the environment, since it doesn't use pesticides, hormones, etc in food which humans can ingest if they are used.Local Organic is best because its less travel to your home and its usually fresher. Local Farmers Markets are the best but not everyone is graced with them.

been on only organic food for over 3 months now...yes it's much better for your insides and palate has changed. i buy local and have to split my groceries over a few places. i went on some nutrition learning quest awhile ago and it was an effort to make changes but now it's part of the routine.

for those of you interested in organic food and not eating geneticaly modified crap check this out. I got this in the mail this week, i guess this would be the spot to post it..
Obama's Secretary of Agriculture
Despite strong opposition, Obama's choice for Secretary of Agriculture is former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack who has actively supported genetically engineered crops and is not a friend to organic gardeners, but instead a friend to the Monsanto, which vigorously promotes genetic engineering and viciously opposes (not an exaggeration) labeling it.
there's a petition to try to block his confirmation and I urge you to also sign it and pass this along to anyone you think would be interested!

I am all for it.. i try to buy mainly at farmers markets during our growing season here.. problem is the fucking COST!!! thanksgiving.. i purchased some aromatics.. (celery,carrots,onions,etc..) and 1 apple.. along with a another vegi.. .. 38 dollars.. from whole paycheck.. the lone apple cost more than 3 bucks.. I just went to the local mexican market and bought 5 bags of stuff.. meat,cheese,vegi's.. 25 bucks.. i love the mexican market..

We have quite a few farmers markets that are mostly Koreans that sell there, the one nearest is all organic and really cheap.
