Ok, so a friend of mine calls me up because needs some photography for a new resto/lounge opening up in Toronto.
I have to meet with the owner tomorrow and I don't have anything put together yet.
I don't think any of my recent phography would work in the space but I have tons buried on a hard drive.Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might work in this space? I was thinking of doing some abstract stuff.
What colors do you think might work well? (Im thinking of using some violets or b&w's)

go in and take pictures - take first person shots, close-ups of unique details, dim the lights a bit. I really dig the bulb shot there ^
are you asking for shoot direction or what?
- yeah sorta kinda... ideas more less because I have to come up with something by tomorrowimnotadesigner

You could mix it up with some large photos with some screen printed designs over the top? If its done well can look quite effective.

I can sort of visualize what you're saying slappy. Do you have any examples?

I like that idea but the problem is that I don't have that many portraits. I'd have to talk the owner into it.... maybe I'll can gather some samples for that concept and say that I can do something "sort of like this"

i'z confused. did you just list those photos above as the space that needs photos taken? what's wrong with the ones you showed?
- no no.... I posted pics of the space for referenceimnotadesigner
- they want to frame some photography/artwork in the spaceimnotadesigner

Hows this for another idea:
The lounge is called "local" so... what if I take shots of details in the neighborhood. (brick.... architecture.... etc.)?

not too much on the danforth architecturally of interest, i'd suggest some b&w pics of grizzled old greek "locals"
- true.... not a bad idea about the people though.imnotadesigner

Suggestion: You need to show food (thats a no brainer) and you need to show living things that are happy in there (dosen't have to be human, but that works too)
Right now it looks like the West Elm showroom and while that looks nice its a little soulless.
I would also close in on the shots. You're revealing too much about the space and I feel like I've already explored it.
- I would also play with the lighting to make it more intimate. Shot #1 kinda does this but #2 blows out and shows you the crawl space and plumbing.cannonball
- you can see the crawlspace. I soucl take a date to shot #1 maybe but defenately not to shot#2cannonball

definitely portraits. soft and smooth maybe duotones. would be nice to have a tall narrow one on the 2nd photo taking up the vertical space.
subjects could be locals like the guys suggested, maybe mix it up, the baker at the corner, the guy at the newstand, the angry dog next door, the bum in the park.

thanks for the comments but I not asking for a crit on the shots I posted... maybe I wasnt clear enough. My friend wants me to provide image to frame inside the sapce

i would go with the idea of local neighbourhood shots, B&W.
(http://drop.io/localphoto). or zoomed in shots of the places and things in the area. no people.different direction - not sure if the rivoli has changed it since but they had a collection of amazing and colourful abstract paintings. that would contrast the modern lines and compliment the warmness of the space.

get some color in there. i think it would be too easy to go with the hollywood regency black and white style. maybe some close in lomo food shots to give it kind of dreamy feel with soft bright colors?

I cant think of anyone doing it off the top of my head but I was thinking some relevant typography, maybe some silhouettes/outlines of unique things from aound the restaurant/building such as light fittings or stairs or the building itself who knows. All done in a single colour overlay and not taking up a large part of the photo.
I like the idea of solid colour over a photo as well as the hand made feel of screen prints. The photos could have a poster feel.
