Been feeling really down since Saturday and I can't shake it off. Nightmares and daydreams about loved ones and pets dying, uncertainties about the new job (I always get that in the first week or two), LOTS of other things.
Music is making things worse. All I want to do is curl up and go to sleep.
How do you cope if/when you get like this?

Definately go outside and do something. Something challenging I have had my confidence and happiness knocked out of me recently so I am going to be doing a few challenging things over the next few weeks :), chin up stimmers you total bogan.

Take a walk in the countryside. A walk up a mountain always helps to put things into perspective. (Or a loch if you're lucky enough to live in Scotland).
You need to get away from the shitey things, no matter how busy.

Sounds like this is circumstantial and not chronic so it should pass. Totally sucks, I go through this too, but make sure you don't stay in bed, at least after the first day. Make yourself get up, shower and go outside. Work at a café or place with wifi so you are around people and not just home alone. Go out with friends and whatever you do, don't listen to music. At least for me, that only makes it last longer. Remember that people love you - just look at all the kitty gifs people are sending you!
