I think that is bad and pretty unprofessional. Sorry to sound harsh but this is what i think.
Your website is your personal shopwindow and showcase.
Every salesmen knows that the intent of displaying something on a showcase is to sell it, otherwise the piece wouldn't be there. Period. No need to put something on and then moan about it, especially throwing shit at someone else's work. ("yeah, i did it but i don't like it because the Art Direction was shit")
If you really feel to display that piece just write something like "I did this and that. But for personal reasons i'm no longer accepting this kind of jobs". Or simply ditch the piece if you're afraid that people will see that and ask for similar stuff.
Harsh, but honest.

Kelps, I do have a habit of being a bit too blunt in describing projects which is why I checked it out before posting it up. The point on this job was that there was no art director, it was a low priority job for the label and on a very small budget. I heard the music and thought they sounded really good, then when I met the bloke I was surprised by his idea to create a cartoon band and to use a very familiar animation style... I told him as well because he asked and I believe in being honest - so the context is that I was merely developing an illustration style that could sit as a backdrop to a cartoon band. At the end fo the day my project description was intended (intended but failing!) to put it into that context: that I created the illustrations, but I didn't create the marketing concept or identity.
But badly written, I know that, and I haven't used the text.

The dormant art director in you should be more diplomatic.
Cunt.

There should be a wee red flag you can put next to a thread which indicates that the original question has been answered and if you go back into the thread then you are a total a55 lvr. Except for me I can come and go as I please :D and I do love a55

"The original text I proposed isn't actually as negative as it sounds but to explain why I'd have to go into loads of detail about the details of the commission. The point is though: if it sounds negative to anyone reading it who isn't aware of the details of the commission then that would be bad."
heh... mate if there is any way at all that the original text could sound anything but seriously negative I'd be very surprised. Its in the language and choice of words, and the details you choose to point out. it really screams of bitterness, if that's accidental and inaccurate and its just how its coming across due to some circumstance then I'd check the hell out of any of the stuff you're putting up in case its unduly suffering the same fate :-/

Just as a general point... this was a thread from last night that has just jumped back. My question was answered clearly, I have not used the project description I was playing with as it was clearly very negative sounding.
Thanks for all feedback.

"here is something that i illustrated, but i should have been in charge of these idiots, then i would have shown them". *shakes fist.
is kind of how the first one reads to me. havnae read the second one because i, like your girlfriend, have decided you are a cunt.
- chossy0
Good lad spooky, the text was a bit wrong, don't do it again hoi no no nooooo bad spooky no typey the cheeky texty.
- jamble0
I don't think it matters if you like it or not to be honest. You were hired to illustrate not art direct so as such, your "feedback" isn't really relevant. If it's a technically good piece of work, just put down the description of what you've done and who it was for in your folio otherwise you end up sounding a bit of a smart-arse git.
Then register an anonymous account on their myspaz or their website or whatever and diss their new identity.

Yeah, you're right Ian. After fielding opinions on here I have put the following text....
"I was commissioned to create the factory Headquarters of Sugarush Beat Company and to provide them with various scenes on a journey around the town and within the factory for use on their sleeves and video promos. I created a HQ that was like a catherdral, but made of industrial elements to convey the devotion they have to producing great music. A few scenes shown below. The top image also went on to become the album cover" .
The original text I proposed isn't actually as negative as it sounds but to explain why I'd have to go into loads of detail about the details of the commission. The point is though: if it sounds negative to anyone reading it who isn't aware of the details of the commission then that would be bad.
- Yeah its all about context. Id say if you explained it to clients they'd understand but anyone unfamiliar to it could just...ian
- ... take it as a negative from a 'difficult artiste' and I'd say the music industry has enough of those already.ian
- < Does this one sound better by the way?SkyPoo
- Aye, much better and more professional.ian
- kelpie0
haven't read the thread Tim, but yeah you do sound like a cunt here. If you don't like the project then leave it off, your chat is pretty rank considering that its not your band and a bit disrespectful to people who I assume did pay you at the end of the day, to do a job.
- ian0
spooks this is a very very tricky thing and has the potential for a harsh backlash. One the one hand it is probably a very accurate description of the events but look at this from the point of view of the company that charged you with the task of doing the illustrations, they could view it as an attempt to burn bridges with them.
Its reads pretty much as 'Heres the project, I didn't like working on it, no one listened to me, I knew better but the art director was a tool with no sense of style nor knowledge of the industry, but fuck it I did it and if anyone asks my other ideas were better'. If the art director that was in charge reads this you can pretty much kiss goodbye to the client.
Where as a more diplomatic approach would be to say 'after much debate, this was the direction chosen by the band/art director and I did it to the best of my abilities'.
- Ok, I should have read to the end of the thread before posting. Oh well.ian
