I wonder how everyday people can even figure out if this chick would even make a good judge. You think there would be some better information on her website to make the case.

It truly baffles me that people try to make an argument that the solution to gun violence is more guns. It's easy to understand why the NRA makes the argument, but how did the people get convinced?

The country with the most guns per capita is America. It's not even close. There are MORE GUNS THAN PEOPLE. So here we have this great example country: America has the most guns per capita and the most frequent mass shootings by citizens.

Obviously, the problem with gun violence is much, much larger than just gun control and access to weapons. It's a complex problem. But, it is crazy to me that people have been tricked into thinking that you could solve the problem with more guns.

    • Needing to defend yourself from violent attacks, invasions and terrorists is so common in Montana that it's a way of life? I call complete bullshit on that.monospaced

My thought on the UK Brexit and how it relates to democracy in general: I feel like the issue is ultimately far too complex for the 'average' citizen to understand well enough to make the right decision.

One aspect is economics. The economic fallout could be massive, but it's impossible even for the smartest economists to know what's best. So, why do we think the majority will be able to make the correct decision via a vote?

Because, to me, if the question was, "What is the best thing for the UK?" I think the only honest answer most people can give is "How the fuck would I know?"

So instead, the question becomes, "Ok, well what do you want to do?"

It feels like the country is flipping a coin on what will be the biggest decision of their lives. Crazy times.

(*Note: trying to keep politics in the Politics thread.)

    • won't Brexit halt immigration from Syria and the like??robotron3k
    • The people from Syria coming to the UK are potentially refugees. This is not the same a economic EU migrants or Illegal immigrants. It's very complex.Morning_star
    • Brexit would not stop refugees or illegal immigrants.Morning_star
    • See, this is a good example, too. I really don't know, but I doubt that illegal immigrants or refugees put much of a strain on the economy.
      ********
    • There are British companies and individuals worth billions. Trade deals that over time are worth trillions. An annual budget over 700 billion.
      ********
    • It seems to me that a few refugees (even if it were 1 million of them) wouldn't hurt the economy much. Most of them become taxpayers. All of them spend money.
      ********
    • My point is that if you are voting Brexit based on refugees, you're not at all looking at the big picture.
      ********
    • Agreed nb. However, on the whole, the EU migrants contribute more in revenue to the UK economy than they cost. Immigration as a whole is a bit of a ....Morning_star
    • ... a distraction in the debate. It's very emotive but also not entirely due to EU legislation. Our commitment to refugees is controlled by global agreements.Morning_star
    • Ya. To be fair, immigration is an issue, and people have a right to their opinion on it. I just see the Brexit as SOOOO much bigger than that issue.

WATCH: Following Moment Of Silence, Democrats Shout Down Speaker Ryan

What you're hearing is Democrats shouting, "Where's the bill?" and "No leadership." Democrats were angry that Ryan had not let the body consider bills intended to curb gun violence.

South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn, a Democrat, began to tell Ryan that he was concerned that several bills drafted after the Charleston, S.C., shooting were not being considered.

    http://www.npr.org/sections/thet…

Unbelievable. What's worse, today, Ryan held a press conference and did not mention gun control. Instead he said President Obama was not doing enough to deal with "radical Islam." What an absolute joke the Republican party and Ryan have become. I'm truly embarrassed with our political state.
