http://bleacherreport.com/articl…"We've become a nation of wusses," the 66-year-old two-term Governor of Pennsylvania said Monday. "The Chinese are kicking our butt in everything. If this was in China do you think the Chinese would have called off the game?"

I was looking at these poll numbers today from the two most
"respected" American pollsters. There seems to be a somewhat different trend being portrayed here lolAnd statistically speaking, its almost impossible to poll people everyday and get a 15 point difference in opinion. So, which reality do you believe in?
- i don't get why people pay attention to poll numbers. bout as cool and accurate as maxim top 100********
- Actually you're wrong though deathboy. If you sample enough people polling is almost always accurate.********
- im not talking about statistics errors and such. what use is that info to me? to you? does poll data change your mind?********
- and then toss in statistic errors, demographics, bias and you see its probably not even wroth it to PR cats.********
- hell all that is important to PR cats is how its spun not the data. Good news to rally teams is all its really good for********
- Aren't the one who recommended that book on public opinion/ propaganda a few weeks back?********
- Cmon...where did all the cynicism go son?:)********
- Anyway, you're talking about two different things. Are polls accurate and are they used PR or political reasons.********
- Just saying i see no substance or use. Just a bad ad i normally ignore.********
- how bout this get the data taken on every person polled on both parts and methods used and we can find an answer********
- answer********
- How bout we don't and say we did********
- But you're missing the point. It's not actually that complicated:)********
- i know. its retarded. how does one decide which one is mor eliekly correct not knwoing how the data was used...********
- No, the I was trying to make is that the data is actually almost the same.********
- Look at the bottom two graphs and the start and end numbers. Almost identical in fact.********
- He then takes that data, which is the same as Gallup's, and comes up with some justification from throwing out enough people that it looks like the one at the top.********
- people that it results in the one at the top:) Making it seem like there are these two equally valid interpretations.********
- oh alright. .. haha im actually looking at the graphs and have no idea/how what theyre showing to make any sort of decision on that********
- One in which Obama is supported by only 20% of the country and mobs of Patriotic Tea Partiers are swarming through the streets********
- through the streets or something...lol********
- sens or opinion on any of it. i got nothign accept both could be wrong or soemthign could be biased. i have no idea or care about public opinioned summed up in such totality********
- concern with the public opinion summed up into approve/disapprove. . what does that mean ?!********
- my head hurts now thinkign so hard about nothing********
- i don't get why people pay attention to poll numbers. bout as cool and accurate as maxim top 100

I love this too - in case you weren't convinced, Rasmussen Reports also offers this chart showing the same thing on the same page.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/…
But hey wait a sec - this one actually shows the same numbers Gallup and every other pollster does. Obama's approval having fallen but only down to 45%.
I bet if you squished the Gallup chart into the same space, they would be almost identical in fact. So what the hell is this? Rasmussen is basically saying his other poll, the one conversatives like to post everywhere, is not true.
But the difference being - and I love this - he leaves out the disapprove numbers only from this graphic, so all you see is this massive downward trend.
You almost have to admire whoever thinks this stuff up, its pretty damn good propaganda. I mean yeah, liberals will bitch and whine about Rasmussen being biased, but no one in the media ever talks about it. And he commissions way more polls than any other company.
- ********0
So anyway, why would the #1 conservative pollster feel the need to lie to their readers? It's almost like they want you to be misinformed or something...
- who gives a shitMr_Fantastic
- I don't really care on personal everyday level. I just find it funny when you see people brazenly coming up with this shit.********
- shit. But actually, what the fuck Mr Fantastic, that offended you but the previous 700 pages of gay Mexican bashing Muslims scare stories didn't?********
- scare stories didn't?********
- Not very Fantastic of you is all I can say********
- ********0
@deathboy
In terms of why, I think its like marketing to a high end audience, the value is more in the influencing. Majority of the country doesn't give a flying shit as Mr. Fantastico there pointed out.
But the people in the media who decide the news stories,or members of Congress deciding to vote on something, absolutely read these things.
And even if some people see through the gimmick, it creates this sense that your opinion is 15 points more popular than it actually is. Which has got to be valuable, especially if you can't convince people to support certain things on their own.
And if it doesn't work, why do it? The proof that it matters is that Rasmussen or someone actually sat down and brainstormed all of this.
- yea for sure they paid to portray something that cant be proven in order to persuade people.********
- id rather peopel jsut ignore it becuase its not good for politics, no need for a prom king queen in politics.********
- so i was simply tryign to debase it so peopel may think about it mroe then the way theyre told to by news agencies********
- hell news agencies want u to care , plus they need stories. i mean if they only reported on important thigns there would********
- be no news********
- Yeah, I mean who knows, probably like a lot of things gets more credit than deserved.********
- I do think something like Fox has been effective at making people more conservative********
- hmm could be. i dont comment on overall station bias too much. accept for its there all around. i just accept that and try to filter the crap for a big of good journo.********
- try to filter it for a bit of good journo. and if not ill watch stewart or beck for entertainment********
- i kid about both for entertainment really. stewart/colbert better entertainment but soemtimes there methods get as bad as beck********
- get bad as beck. and when that happens its sitcom/cartoons. entertainment as it should be not mixed in half seriously innuendo********
- Well its not exactly some up for debate is it?:)********
- I think even conservatives have got to say at this point, Fox is pretty much a wing of the Republican party.********
- But hey, it works.********
- yea for sure they paid to portray something that cant be proven in order to persuade people.

And looks like the Murdoch family want to turn Sky TV into the Fox News of the UK once David Cameron approves their majority share...good times
I guess they figured that owning a propaganda network that speaks for half the government is a way better investment than all these crappy little web startups
- ********0
hey better. i think im seeing your motive now. you were using data you cant vouch for, choosing which u believed to be right on faith, and the other one you deemed wrong and tied to conservative news networks bias. so motive in whole was trying to debase fox.
i said i dont give much credit to media bias. i know fox is decently big but are they so big that they really make a difference. or are they a counter balance for the other political bias. if fox wasn't biased would no one take there market? Are they the only voice. How would the other networks then act. Hell they may create a counter balance themselves becuase it makes for great news/entertainment bs.
I don't mind people talking about a networks bias and stating a case. But it seems to paint the wrong picture to paint it all 100% biased. Thats just promoting stupidity. Its promoting people to not decide and think about something if it is biased or not, but to have this other particular media outlet as all trust worthy.
i also think a lot of political tv is primarily there to strengthens ones own beliefs in the side they chose, cant really say political ideology/philosophies, more jsut what theyre brought up on. because hell today schooling doesnt teach people how to think just what too. So what scares me more as political influence then news outlets are the groups that target young demographics, and undecided people. The malleable minds. They try to stick an idea in there and seal it off. Im more concerned with bias in college/schools/churchs and programs or networks that target young demographics.
- i prefer to point out single instance of bias and why. dont need unquantifiable lump sums thingies********
- deathboy = the model useful idiotTheBlueOne
- i noticed blue you didnt explain yurself. what do u think, i would think, reading that?********
- i can tell you by our past id say you mean it as a pointless insult. like calling a fat guy slim********
- im always impressed with you blue. you know when to use silence to leave an ambiguity to your motives********
- lest youre technique be shown for the simple method it is. And also you save face on public forum********

I'm talking about Fox, the one that has this guy on it. I mean cmon ...have you ever seen a liberal with this much completely random, unwarranted anger at the world and everything in it?
But you know, Fox is conservative in the same way bears are out there shitting in the woods, Pope protects child molestors, and other commonly observed facts. What's wrong with calling a spade a spade?
- nothing wrong with saying people have bias. Ive also heard billy say good stuff. i dont lump sum judge.********
- that lump sum judgement just promotes stupidity and sides were its important not be blinded by sides.********
- bill in the clip seems mad and wants to do it live. in that clip why would i judge that in any context but that********
- oh and incase u need confirmation i do think fox is overly conservative. and i weigh it knowing that********
- nothing wrong with saying people have bias. Ive also heard billy say good stuff. i dont lump sum judge.

Just a word to the wise. Second guess any news trying to tell you what is right or wrong without presenting reasons/facts to support such accusations. No that different outcomes can be true or false based on beliefs and criteria. i.e. mainly difference in collectivism vs individualism philosophies, republics vs democracy vs all the 'isms. To know when and why collectivism philosphies are better than individualism ones, and to understand who and why theyre being sacrificed. To understand that sacrificing in collectivism philsophy is different then nature in individualism. Stay away from lump sum collective data that tries to insenuate answers based on uncorrelated data. Anything trying to get you to side without independent judgement based on reason is likely biased in one way or another. Stating this i apologize if it feels condescending. That isn't my motive. My pure motive is to call into case how one judges and values. What criteria and how it fits into their own world views and to check and measure for contradictions then analyze them and see how they work. And most importantly to be honest with oneself and your own desires and not to be clouded. To always test your perception to seem if u have an unconcious bias. Before all judgement one has to be sure of oneself.... sounds like self indulgent rubble im a sure of, but take in to fact i know how it sounds and weigh that accordingly.

Oh no! Reality is settling in...
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/0…
"Many people knowledgeable about the federal budget said House Republicans could not keep their campaign promise to cut $100 billion from domestic spending in a single year. Now it appears that Republicans agree.
As they prepare to take power on Wednesday, Republican leaders are scaling back that number by as much as half"
