Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leads his Republican rivals for the party’s 2012 presidential nomination, according a new survey out Friday by Public Policy Polling.
Romney commands 28 percent of the 614 self-identified Republican primary voters polled by PPP.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee places second with 24 percent, followed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin at 23 percent and Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) at 11 percent. All four leading candidates ran for the party’s nomination in 2008.

In March, 2005, Romney signed an annual proclamation establishing a ''Right to Privacy Day" to mark the anniversary of Baird v. Eisenstadt, a 1972 Supreme Court ruling legalizing birth control for unmarried people.
In 2004, Romney issued an official state proclamation celebrating "Gay Youth Pride Day" even though there was no legal reason requiring him to do this. The proclamation proudly touted "landmark" gay rights legislation in Massachusetts and boasted of supporting "the Commonwealth's gay and lesbian youth through school-based and educational programs."
"I feel that all people should be allowed to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation," Romney said, regarding the Boy Scouts' ban on gay Scoutmasters.
