Well if it does pass...then Obama will start working on fixing the economy...right??? But if it doesn't pass maybe we can waste more of our time being distracted from the real issues at hand! Let's spend another year talking about HC while unemployment rises some more!!
- The government can't create jobs, I thought I saw you say that a while back.DrBombay

Why are so many Americans so insular? "We have the best healthcare in the world" is a line I have heard a thousand times...what a load of crap! How can these people seriously say garbage like that without knowing the first thing about what is going on outside their own little world.

horay for change!

so what actually does happen now?
- ...procedure, and time passes. Then the pres. signs the bill.luckyorphan
- Well, more complicated than that, but there are a few more steps to take before the signing.luckyorphan

America 1 - Teabaggers 0
It looks like the Republicans (aka) The Right Wing Nut Job Teabaggers and their partners in crime as well as co-conspirators: corporate America, health care insurance companies and the pharmaceutical industry lost.
- Not yet. I won't believe it til the pres. signs the bill. Anything's possible.luckyorphan
- eieio0
i'm not sure any of the people utopian mentioned actually lose out, it makes gov. much closer to the companies leading the medical industry. They're securing their own future even if the 'economy' is in the shitter health care business continues
- minus the teabaggers i guess they lose because blackie won oneeieio
- Essentially you are correct.
The racist, inbred, God fearing,
war mongering, hillbillies lost at their own game.utopian - Well, the industry is more attached for now, but if a public option ever competes, they may begin to lose out.luckyorphan
- ukit0
It's both of course, there are probably very specific winners and losers but clearly the industry wasn't 100% against the bill. I think Rahm Emmanuel and some of the others from the Clinton era realized that if they tried to jam a bill down the industry's throat without working with them they would likely be crushed by negative ads and opinion money.
But guess what, maybe they were right. We've now just passed, for the first time, a form of universal health care in America, albeit working within the free market system.
- You'll never please everyone in this country...I applaud Obama for being reasonable and realistic in his approachukit

"Conservatives and Republicans today suffered their most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s.
No illusions please: This bill will not be repealed. Even if Republicans scored a 1994 style landslide in November, how many votes could we muster to re-open the “doughnut hole” and charge seniors more for prescription drugs? How many votes to re-allow insurers to rescind policies when they discover a pre-existing condition? How many votes to banish 25 year olds from their parents’ insurance coverage? And even if the votes were there – would President Obama sign such a repeal?
I’ve been on a soapbox for months now about the harm that our overheated talk is doing to us. Yes it mobilizes supporters – but by mobilizing them with hysterical accusations and pseudo-information, overheated talk has made it impossible for representatives to represent and elected leaders to lead. The real leaders are on TV and radio, and they have very different imperatives from people in government. Talk radio thrives on confrontation and recrimination. When Rush Limbaugh said that he wanted President Obama to fail, he was intelligently explaining his own interests. What he omitted to say – but what is equally true – is that he also wants Republicans to fail. If Republicans succeed – if they govern successfully in office and negotiate attractive compromises out of office – Rush’s listeners get less angry. And if they are less angry, they listen to the radio less, and hear fewer ads for Sleepnumber beds."

cool even more financial debt and more expensive healthcare
- at least the costs will be so high we cant afford wars********
- deathboy, that is incorrect. Please review the report from the CBO. The result will be a deficit reduction.luckyorphan
- haha ok explain it. how does 940 billion spent equal 148 or soemthing in profit to reduce debt********
- db, that's they type of ignorance that is typical of the problem. Sometimes you need to spend in order to save...BusterBoy
- no its jsut clever number management. denying common sense is ignorance. what social program has reduced deficit?********
- reduced deficit.********
- not too mention the most important factor was increased medical costs, and how does this curb those costs? subsidizing with more people.********
- all it does is subsidize costs with more people. it does nothing to put costs in a supply/demand scenario********
- at least the costs will be so high we cant afford wars

"People with low or moderate incomes do not get the same medical attention as those with high incomes. The poor have more sickness, but they get less medical care. People who live in rural areas do not get the same amount or quality of medical attention as those who live in our cities."
President Truman

Boehner is pissed. Then two minutes in he realizes he's not a very good actor and the House rules guy tells him to act his fucking age.
- This joker is the head of the Republican party, the one who will be running things if you vote them back in.ukit
- hes a douche becuase hes supporting bs policies. medicare covers 1/8 of people. but 100% pay in through wages. and its failing********
- Also the bloke he keeps on banging on about the US having "the best healthcare in the world". My Ass...BusterBoy
- wages and still is failing. i/comapny paid 7k last year. i paid around 1200 for regular insurance, company matches 50% i think. just do the math********
- 50% i think. so do the math. its a fallacy that everyone needs insurance. you do in todays context becuase insurance pays 5 times more********
- 5 times more. but its a worthless model that will only increase costs for everyone while making healthcare worse off********
- Is that what you think, or what Republicans think? I can't tell what they believe in anyone.ukit

Good summary of the nuts and bolts:
For Consumers, Clarity on Health Care Changes
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/2…"The uninsured are clearly the biggest beneficiaries of the legislation, which would extend the health care safety net for the lowest-income Americans."
"There would be costs to consumers, too. Affluent families would be required to pay additional taxes. Most Americans would be required to have health insurance and face federal penalties if they do not buy it. And it is still unclear what effect, if any, the legislation would have on rising out-of-pocket medical costs and premiums."
"Beginning in 2014, for example, many employers — those with 50 or more workers — could face federal fines for not providing insurance coverage."
"Six months after the legislation is enacted, many plans would be prohibited from placing lifetime limits on medical coverage, and they could not cancel the policies of people who fall ill. Children with pre-existing conditions could not be denied coverage."
There is more good analysis. Read, people.
- If you still read the NYTimes, there is no hope for you. Good summary? Penalties and taxes is a good summary?********
- Please start critically thinking for yourself.********
