State of health care debate: Pundits attack 11-year-old
http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatch…What did you expect from the GOP - "TEABAGGER UNITE®"
- ukit0
Assuming health care reform does pass in the next couple days, what do you think the GOP will do? Will they really run against it, considering it has provisions like not dropping people from coverage if they get a terminal disease? Are they really gonna say, we'll roll back the law that would let you get health care when you get cancer? It's not very easy to tell people that you will take away a right that they have already been given.

BTW, the latest news on the health care bill is that the Congressional Budget Office (i.e., neutral group, not siding with Democrats or Republicans) did an analysis of the current bill. Their conclusion was:
"The CBO estimated it would extend coverage to 32 million additional people. It also extends Medicare’s solvency by at least 9 years and reduces the rate of its growth by 1.4 percent.
Comprehensive health care reform will cost the federal government $940 billion over a ten-year period, but will increase revenue and cut other costs by a greater amount, leading to a reduction of $130 billion in the federal deficit over the same period.
It will cut the deficit by $1.2 trillion over the next ten years."
Wait what? $1.2 trillion? Can someone point me to the last time Republicans put forward a bill that would cut the deficit by $1.2 trillion? Or for that matter, any president of either party?
Unless you can come up with a reason why the CBO's analysis is drastically wrong, then I think you have to admit there are at least some good aspects to this bill. Even if you disagree that we should change how we regulate the insurance industry, how can you be against the deficit reduction aspect?

INSURANCE MARKET REFORMS: Major consumer safeguards take effect in 2014. Insurers prohibited from denying coverage to people with medical problems or charging them more. Higher premiums for women would be banned. Starting this year, insurers would be forbidden from placing lifetime dollar limits on policies, and from denying coverage to children because of pre-existing medical problems. Parents would be able to keep older kids on their policies up to age 26. A new high-risk pool would offer coverage to uninsured people with medical problems until 2014, when the coverage expansion goes into high gear.
- Anyone disagree with any of that?
DrBombay - sounds good... now who's paying for those who can't afford it? do I have to have insurance or else pay a fine?PonyBoy
- Yup, basically, that's the bad part - the mandate (although there are plenty of loopholes and it doesn't apply to anyone making under a certain amount)ukit

Today is the seventh anniversary of the Iraq invasion. There's a temptation as we begin to end our combat presence in Iraq to search for a happy ending. But there has been no 'victory' in Iraq. We created this video as a reminder of the damage done to Iraq and to our country over the last seven years.
We also know that there will be no economic recovery here at home as long as we're spending $100 billion a year on another war that isn't making us any safer - the war in Afghanistan.

how much money will be spent on getting these last few votes?

No abortions will be covered BTW, you sheeple are safe.

Unless he can "lock down" proof from Democratic leadership that they will change their health care reform package to add more abortion coverage restrictions, he and 12 other anti-abortion rights Democrats will vote against the bill, Stupak said this morning on ABC's "Good Morning America."
—Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak, the House Democrat opposed to the health care legislation because of its abortion language

Increasingly, abortion foes – including high-profile Catholic organizations and members of Congress – are saying that while the language aimed at preventing use of federal funds for abortion is not perfect, the bill is still worth passing as a first step.
Congressman Wilson, who is Catholic, added that he needed to review the final version of the bill, which was released Thursday afternoon, but seemed headed toward “yes.” In his remarks, Wilson cited the thousands of Americans who die every year without healthcare. “We must value these lives as well,” he said.
- I could care less about anything religious here... it's just 'life' and it shouldn't be destroyed. FUCK CATHOLICS... hypocritical tools.PonyBoy
- what about in instances of rape, incest or high risk medical emergencies?fooler2

- ... the mother has loved dearly through his 25+ years... ... I can only imagine how she felt - but she'd have it no other way.PonyBoy
- Also... sidenote - anyone watch Law & Order SVU? Mariska Hargitay's character is supposed to be a rape childPonyBoy
- ... not sure why that's written in there - but it is about 'special victims'PonyBoy
- if your against abortion dont have one, its that simple. I'm not in favor of killing babies but it is a womans right to choose for herself.fooler2
- i'm not trying to put an end to it... i know that won't happen... i'm just against public funds going to it... nothing more :)PonyBoy
- ukit0
From what I heard Pony what is in the bill is an amendment that would prohibit public funds (i.e., your tax monies) from being used to fund abortions.
Abortion coverage isn't going to be outlawed, like it or not abortion has been declared legal by the Supreme Court and if you do a survey, a large majority support it.
So you're not gonna ban all abortions in this bill or make women go get a "waiver" like Stupak wants. But saying that no public funds can be spent, seems like a pretty fair compromise to me, actually it's even leaning more to the conservative side if you ask me.
- well... i think the issue then is to clarify the language - as this is going to be law... yes? :) If everything you say is true... rad. :)PonyBoy
