There are differences between the Republican and Democratic doctrines for sure, however they are hardly radical. There are so many political philosophies in the world that make the differences between those two seem almost trivial. I think Noam Chomsky brought up an excellent point in his Language & Responsibility (probably a fragile read for those with staunch political allegiances)– why is no Marxist view ever represented in the news (and sorry, but if you consider democratic coverage to be this then you need some serious exposure to the outside world)? Anarchists (though there are Libertarians who represent themselves)? Surely there are competent individuals who would describe themselves as such. They are not irrelevant either. The commonality of the two dominant parties in the US is that they must both remain "American". They are both composed of people from all classes– "corporate fat cats" and Joe-nothings. Both sides eat their own shit when they say they just care about the average working American. Both sides throw hissy fits when someone tosses out the word "retard". Both sides gawk at the idea that a state would want to secede from the union. Both sides gawk at the idea of a non-interventionist foreign policy. Both sides have a moral will in the framework of their political ideals. There is nationalism, for better or for worse, but you'd be daft not to recognize it.

The United States of America was founded as a God fearing and loving nation. Most of you have seemingly forgotten this simple fact.

    In God we trust.

    • I think it would be grandstanding to say anything more than– SO?!
(though I'll allow others room to refute this)

    • refute this– as there is a clear difference between Christians and deists, which may be confusing you)ismith

I am sure every native american would disagree, not to mention the puritans left england to escape religious persecution - oh the irony.

    • I believe that this is a primary reason why you all hate Sarah Palin. Because she so often speaks of God AND Country.

    • If you were honest people, you would say... "yes Sum, you are correct. This is why we hate her"...

^ Of course, the US was also founded as a nation that did not allow women to vote, considered people of African descent as 3/5 of a person, and practiced slavery. But that is not the way things are today, because the people of the nation have been empowered to decide what is best.

I'll never understand the founding fathers argument. They never expected us to live as they lived. Sure, certain ideals were developed in hopes that they would persist, but among those ideals inscribed in our Constitution is the ability of the people to change it.

In other words, things change. It's called progress.

(And to my opponents on this concept, please consider that I'm debating, not hating. So let's try our best to keep this polite. Then again, it is your First Amendment right to respond how you like.)

    One more note:

"In God We Trust" did not appear on our nation's currency until 1864, and was not adopted as our national motto until 1956. So let's try to keep an eye on just what was around when our founding fathers were busy making this truly incredible country.

Let's not forget that this country was once part of the global continent Pangea... for years all creatures lived together on one giant landmass... which brings me to my next point - the lithosphere is fucking cool.

It should be pointed out that there were more than 2,600 reports about dear Sarah Palin, and the writing on her hand, as compared to just 17 reports concerning Obama's complete ignorance of the United States Military when he said "Corpsemen" three times last week while giving a major speech.

Now, just imaging if Palin uttered "Corpsemen" in a speech, let alone three times! Oh my goodness, you would all have such a field day.

This clearly demonstrates the double standard that exists. And it's a double standard that the people are wise to and will defeat with a vengeance.

    • SumWurk, she will some day need to stand on her own merits and not on her opponents faults.IRNlun6

There's also some merit to the argument that the institutional forms chosen by the Founding Fathers were compromises to maintain the institution of slavery. We live to this very day with a moribund and craptacular Senate because that body was designed to thwart the will of the People, because that would of meant an immediate and popular uprising against the institution of slavery, and slavery needed to be maintained to maintain the Union.

Today the Senate does it's best to prevent anything the People would will from happening based on institutional tools used to maintain slavery, but now serve corrupt corporate masters to keep as all happy techno serfs.

    Think about it.

There is nothing in the Constitution about a 60 vote rule in the Senate. Yet that's what they cling to and wring their hands and moan about in public. It's pure arbitrary bullshit.Go and read about Nelson Rockefeller giving the tools to the Senate to change it's own rules, which they never use of course.

For the corrupt corporations it's easier to pay one or two Senators money to stand up and force a majority vote, and the Senators all cultivate their own little special interest gardens.

Also, the House was supposed to expand membership in relation to population. The number of House members hasn't changed since 1913. That means the proportional relationship between your vote and what a House representative speaks for has gotten smaller and smaller.

In other words, in 1913 one house district might have 20,000 people. Today it has 250,000. So a hundred years ago your influence on your rep was 1/20000/ Today it is 1/250000.

There's your "one man, one vote" theory shot to shit. You're vote is worth many magnitudes less than your grandfathers was. All because the House hasn't abided by the Constitution and expanded with population.

Also interesting to note that the Constitution mandates the government to do census and use those numbers to expand House membership. Odd that it's always the rightwing (real home of fascist) who love to argue about the "evil census". Yup, wouldn't want accurate figures for use in doling out proportional representation, no sir.

Of course I'm talking government institutional structural reform, and that's too much for you pea brains to handle. Go back to making clever puns on Obama's name.

Well I haven't heard the Palin fangirls on this site able to list a single reason why she should be elected, except for some vague ideas about being able to relate to people, being religious and cutting taxes.

How f*cking dense do you have to be to make those things your criteria for office? In case you've been living in a cave, we actually had a leader who did all those things for most of the past decade, where did that get us?

BTW, if you haven't seen it this Will Ferrell broadway show thing it's worth a watch, pretty f*cking hilarious.

It's flabbergasting that the US Government has just spent $350 million dollars advertising the upcoming US Census. That's not $350 million dollars conducting the Census, that's $350 million dollars to tell us that they're going to do the Census.

    $350 million dollars. Wow.
