I don't need to know all the facts to support a womans right to choice.
Your argument is weak. We could go round and round with circumstances and semantics all day. You think because you believe in god you have the right to strip a woman's sovereignty over her own body? Guess what, you don't.

Just curious, do you guys (designbot and GR) think abortion is ever OK?
What if you know for sure the mother is going to die? Or in cases of rape or incest?
I am not in favor of abortion at all, but I think sometimes it's a choice between bad and worse. Also, you guys are not going to get far in your argument that it's OK to pop a cap in anyone you don't agree with.
I'm not an expert on Tiller, but if what he did was so horrible and he "deserved to be killed," why did he get acquitted on all counts shortly before being killed by a jury of his peers?

To circle back around here, Dr. Evil is dead. His murderer, Scott Roeder is behind bars, and in Kansas, there is an immediate job opening.
Job Opening:
Late-term Abortionist Wanted.
Pays well. Instantly become an "American Hero".Can you kill late-term babies with a straight face? A fast growing industry with virtually NO competition. Plenty of victims as Kansas is chalk-full of inner-breeding. To apply, show up at the abortion clinic with your favorite straw. Wear an Obama shirt for special consideration.

I love how your habit of thinking you are better than people could possibly jive with any sort of christian value that I am aware of. You are a waste of skin.

The ironic thing in all of this is that abortion is barely mentioned in the Bible.

"you think because you believe in god you have the right to strip a woman's sovereignty over her own body"
This argument makes absolutely no sense. Killing an innocent child has nothing to do with a woman's "sovereignty over her own body" I am truly sorry that you feel this way, but I don't understand how you can come to such a conclusion.
TBO not sure why you are getting so angry?
I can tell you with 100% certainty, I or my wife would NEVER get an abortion under ANY circumstances. I am the proud father of 2 boys and we made this decision very early on, that regardless of what happened in the pregnancy we would not terminate. I can tell you it is extremely scary to think about these things during pregnancy. All sorts of thoughts came to my mind...like what if are child is born severely retarded, or with some major deformity? At the end of the day I always go back to the question "Why does XYZ give me any right to kill an innocent child?" I can't think of single reason. Because the medical bills would be astronomical? Because it would be a huge burden on my life?
"giving birth and having to take up the medical expenses incurred" surely we can agree that money can not be a valid argument when we are talking about human life, no? The path may be a very difficult and painful one, but I still have to cling to life. Children who are severely retarded, have autism, have deformities etc. can still have a great life. I know this from experience. We assume that because of these things these unfortunate children must be in misery, but it's simply not true. Wouldn't you rather live (regardless of the circumstances) than not live at all?
- So then don't get an abortion, not sure why you need to be up in other people's business.DrBombay
- of course it makes no sense to you. you have already proved you are god fearing and short sightedBonSeff
- BonSeff, not sure how you expect to have a real discussion when you are so condescending? I encourage you to at least remain civil.designbot

- Dr.B I am not up in other people's faces. I am simply standing up for what I believe in. In the real world I world I would take the stance as described by TBO on the previous page.designbot

- Yes, you are telling women what they can and can't do with their own bodies, like it or not.DrBombay
- This is what I believe yes. And I speak with my actions. But I am not physically in any ones face telling them anything..and never would.designbot
- would. If someone asked me I would tell them how I feel, however.designbot

designbot, what if it's a question of the mother's life being in danger?

BEIJING, June 1 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Monday reaffirmed his faith in a strong dollar and reassured the Chinese government that its huge holdings of dollar-denominated assets are safe.
"We believe in a strong dollar," Geithner said in a question-and-answer session after a speech to students at Peking University.
"Chinese financial assets are very safe," Geithner said. His response drew laughter from the audience.
- Geithner is either lying, or is just very, very stupid. Thanks for pointing that out.********

Indeed, designbot, you are a good man. Brave. Not selfish. Your boys are lucky and blessed to have you.

"Kansas law prohibits aborting viable fetuses, which is generally midway through the second trimester, unless two doctors certify that continuing the pregnancy would cause the woman "substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function." Tiller went on trial in March 2009, charged with 19 misdemeanors for allegedly consulting a second physician in late-term abortion cases who was not truly "independent" as required by Kansas state law.
The case became a cause célèbre for both supporters and opponents of abortion rights. Columnist Jack Cashill compared the trial to the Nuremberg Trials of Nazi war criminals. On March 27, 2009, Tiller was found not guilty of all 19 misdemeanor charges stemming from some abortions he performed at his Wichita clinic in 2003."
- designbot0
I have thought about this as well ukit....interestingly these cases are so extremely rare that the question is almost a non-issue.
I do not know honestly.
- ukit0
OK, I agree, it's a tough issue, but unfortunately that's not a viable answer in terms of the law "I don't know." The law has to say, one way or another.
Because those are mostly the kind of cases this guy Tiller was dealing with.
- designbot0
Wait, you are saying that in this doctor's cases, the mother's lives were at risk? if so, please post the info.

a christian calling another person condescending is soooo rich with irony it isn't even funny.

Did you know that the suspect that MURDERED this medical doctor suffered from mental illness in the past. He was also a member of an anti american anti government Freeman group and was arrested for having a bomb in his car in '96. I wonder what you right wing wackos would have thought if he would have blown up a federal building. That's right you would have called him a TERRORIST but now that he's targeting medical doctors he's your hero?
Get the fuck out of the politics thread and start a new thread called RELIGIOUS RIGHT or BLOGGERS FOR BABIES if you want to argue these facts anymore.

^ Religious Right?
Yes, you leftists ALWAYS play the "religious right card". Do you feel better now?
"Did you know that the suspect that MURDERED this medical doctor suffered from mental illness in the past."
Really? Wow!!! I thought folks with mental illness were good people. Shit, now I'm totally puzzled. Oh, and you said "medical doctor"— well... I suppose he was, kind-of. Although most medical doctors SAVE lives, they do not destroy them.
"but now that he's targeting medical doctors he's your hero?"
He's not my hero. But the good Dr. Evil was your hero, right? Enquiring minds would like to know.
- designbot0
BonSeff, I don't understand what you are saying. I always remain respectful despite disagreeing. You on the other hand, instead of backing up your view with evidence seem to resort to name calling. Why can you not see that there are different views than your own? Perhaps you could even learn if you opened your mind a bit. I can assure you, that even though I hold strong to certain values I always give a listening ear to the other side. At the very least I can say "I understand where you are coming from, even though I disagree". My reason for discussing these topics is not that I wish you to fold to my view, but rather that you (and everyone else) can at least see the other side.

fooler - why is it anyone's differing opinion places them in your "right wing religious nut job" category? It's commentary like that, which dilutes any intelligent discourse. The guy they arrested should be on trial for murder. That's not an issue here. That he's crazy and was let free after having been arrested for the things you say (please link to this info) only points out the issues we have with law enforcement in this country and should be addressed in another post, intelligently.
I think this is a topic not only for religious folk, but everyone. I think you'd be surprised how many people differ on this one. You don't have to be a Democrat or Republican or Christian to waver or be unclrear in your ideas on abortion.
