You're not going to see Palin again, she might be in the limelight as someone here suggested, but not running for the Presidency. There's definitely a likability factor there for a huge number of people, and their votes count just the same.
As tommyo pointed out, a new crop of Republicans, will emerge. Although, personally, I thought that Romney dropped out far too early in the contest, but I suppose that was a resource issue and not energy. Time will tell, obviously if the country's economy comes back around, IRAQ establishes sustainable peace and a solution to the energy situation comes about, that all aids Obama's attempt to grab a second term. Then again, if the Democratic Senate keeps on sucking as much as it has, that might have a negative impact as well. That's the funny thing about having a one-sided Senate and Presidency.
I'd be happy to see Romney come back, I just think the R's threw in the towel on this one with McCain alone. There wasn't much effort, all in all, if you ask me.
It's time for the old Republican gaurd to retire and put things into a different gear.
- I think a new crop of constitutionalists will emerge...forget about republicans, it's back to our forefathers...and republicans have lost those fundamentals.designbot
- forefathers and the fundamentals that made this country great...that the republicans have lost.designbot
- can easily be remedied, with a little motivation and organization, which they will soon have.********
- yes, possibly.......hope your right :)designbot
- That's what I'm hoping too. More constitutionalists. We need more Jefferson and a tad less Hamilton, imo.tommyo

^^ I agree. I also think that the Democrat congress is going to be forced to step it up. Now with Bush out of the way, their inept floundering is going to start falling squarely on their own shoulders. Training wheels are off so to speak.

The democratic congress has been getting cockblocked by the same republicans who used to say "give it an up or down vote" since they gained control. So blaming pelosi is only half true. That is in no way to defend her but you see what I mean.

Rick,

I think we can all read that and know that it's going to take more than electing Democrats to get us out of the darkness.

National opinion polls have shown Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's job approval to be low or unfavorable
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/… somewhat older stats, but probably much the same now- congress is at 9%. soon there will be no more excuses since the dems will have so much power. we'll see what they actually do.sputnik2
- ...end up actually doing.sputnik2
- everybody always gives congress low approval ratings as a whole, yet give their own congressmen high ratingshallelujah

Obama continues: "When you have to be cheerful all the time and try to perform and act like [the tape is unclear; Obama appears to be poking fun at his opponents], I'm sure that some of it has to do with nerves or anxiety and not having done this before, I'm sure. And in my own head, you know, there's—I don't consider this to be a good format for me, which makes me more cautious. When you're going into something thinking, 'This is not my best ...' I often find myself trapped by the questions and thinking to myself, 'You know, this is a stupid question, but let me ... answer it.' Instead of being appropriately [the tape is garbled]. So when Brian Williams is asking me about what's a personal thing that you've done [that's green], and I say, you know, 'Well, I planted a bunch of trees.' And he says, 'I'm talking about personal.' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f–––ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'."

The Dems are so low because they haven't been able to keep their base happy. Think about it - half the country hates them because they are Democrats, and the other half because they are not able to get a liberal agenda through with Bush as president.

haha and on cue I stumbled across this article regarding the Republicans retooling their image.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Republicans need to worry less about what's good for the party and more about what's good for the country. "That requires thinking in fundamentally different ways than the last generation of Republican consultants," said Mr. Gingrich, suggesting a "big fight" is brewing among Republicans over the direction of the party.
That fight is likely to be nationwide, with the Republican Governors Association laying plans to elect more Republican governors at its Miami meeting next week. "We cannot win back the hearts of the people from rhetoric out of Washington," said Nick Ayers, the RGA's executive director.
Jockeying also already is under way for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee, who will become the party's de facto national spokesman. Some state party chairmen, such as those from South Carolina and Florida, are exploring potential runs for RNC chief, Republican officials said.
"We've lost our credibility," said Scott Klug, a former Republican congressman from Wisconsin who said he fears the party is entering a long period of retrenchment. "We're just going to be in the wilderness for a while."

Forgot to add: congratulations on your new President, folks. I was hoping for a larger % margin though: this way Mr. Obama will probably face strong opposition from in-house residents. Still the level of his campaign defines him as a solid worker. All the best.

On another note, it's fascinating to me how involved people got in this election. I thought I got wrapped up in it, but talking to friends, family and coworkers I've been kind of amazed at how informed people are.

^ on larry king he said he was starting a non-profit (i think) organization which will watch the president to see if he follows through with what he promised while campaigning.
i'm sure he'll be around for a little while longer, unfortunately.
