I like Obama's idea of taxing those who make over $250,000, but that's only because I don't make over 250k. And I would like to hear the details on the tax-cut for anyone who makes under $150,000 ( I think that was the number he gave)

I'd like to see mcain tested on these countries politics.

I thought republicans were all about personal responsibility? How about you people help us pay for the fucking war you mistakenly steered this country into. Pay your fucking taxes.
- I pay PLENTY of taxes...nicnichols
- you want less, even though that is completely unsustainable.mrdobolina
- NO, I don't want to be double taxed on my savings and investments.nicnichols
- Why not? Why won't you pay for your war? you owe quite a few billions dude.zarkonite
- Its not my war..nicnichols
- your party's war, that is for sure.mrdobolina
- You aren't one of those Hippies are you? If it were MY war, we would be coming home with a shitload of free Oilnicnichols
- republican war, you called yourself a republican.mrdobolina

I realize that Obama doesn't have much experience, however, I give him the benefit of the doubt to be the better candidate because presidents of all experience levels depend on the cabinet and advisers they surround themselves with to make decisions.
My glowing hope that Obama becomes President is built off of this, and the appreciation that he thinks before he speaks, and I've never in my lifetime seen a candidate who really, truly wants this job to make things better and turn this country around, and not for personal gain. Might that be wishful thinking? Who knows, but it is inspiring, it is motivating, it is exciting as a 30 year old knowing how much better the country could be with a drastic shift in so many areas.
Obama is no JFK, but I really believe that Obama can do so much more than McCain can possibly dream of in terms of inspiring people, business, etc. to help move away from our dependence on oil. So many times in history, the country and citizens have stood up, worked hard, and developed amazing new processes, inventions, ideas, etc. Coming out of the Great Depression, the War Effort, massive public works projects, going into space and to the moon, the list goes on. We need to be inspired in that way to do something great. Obama has his faults, but I really think he can be the person who will make this happen.
I find nothing, absolutely nothing inspiring about McCain. I have a consistent fear that he will win the election, and I hate that feeling.

Either way.. good points guys.. I am not some crazy Republican, I do pay my taxes, and I do alot of charity work..
.. I was just looking for some honest reasons why people would vote for Obama. And aside from the "because he's not McCain" ones, you have some valid points..
I look forward to the debates, hopefully we'll get a better taste of the details then.. and yes. I do vote in every election...
- mrdobolina0
A major reason why I will vote for Obama is because I would never, ever ever ever ever vote for a republican. There are actualy reasons why I like Obama, but I may as well just say I would never ever ever vote for a republican.
- So is that the same as people saying they would never vote for a black person or a woman? Is that ok as well?nicnichols
- For president or for any office?Mimio
- nic, your gotcha games are bullshit.mrdobolina
- Its exactly the same as what you said, actually...nicnichols
- I dont get it.mrdobolina
- yeah that argument is pretty much bullshit. no real facts. you lose dobs.sublocked
- Mimio0
You're kind of dense aren't you nicnichols? You equate a political belief to gender or ethnicity? Those interchangeable criteria?
- mrdobolina0
I have never voted for a republican.
- I share absolutely no ideals with republicans. business is not more important that people, sorry.mrdobolina

So a republican friend of mine goes on and on about if we raise taxes on the 250K+ crowd - he says that most of those people are small business owners - that they will make up that extra money taxed by cutting jobs. And that generally this is the case across the board. Raise taxes for the rich and they will retaliate by cutting jobs and spending less money. Does anyone think this holds water?
- spencer, there is no talking to these people.mrdobolina
- Is that 6.2% gonna hit then that hard?Mimio
- i know, it's impossible to have a discussion that evokes thought. it always ends poorlyspendogg
- So dobs, what happens if you get a raise that puts you over 250k, and you are suddenly making LESS then you were?nicnichols
- so do you agree nic?spendogg
- On the other hand, when you give them credits to export jobs overseas they do!! brilliant republican policies at work.zarkonite
- So do the republicans blame the Dems for raising taxes and forcing jobs overseas?spendogg
- If I was making 1/4 mill a year I wouldn't give a shit.mrdobolina

I cannot wait for the debates. Obama is going to run circles around McCain.
I have been very disappointed at mainstream media throughout this process so far because of their fear or refusal to call out McCain on the lies and slander that he is spreading and reinforcing about Obama. This from a candidate who promised a clean campaign. This from a candidate who talks about honor like he's the one who invented it. He is despicable, nasty, and so completely disrespectful.
This election and campaign cycle is complete proof that we can no longer have rational and objective election coverage ever again. The Sean Hannitys of the world are ruining objectivity and purpose in the world of political reporting and journalism. They're not there to report, they are there to make the story they want to see, to blow up the most minute sound-bite as if Obama has just gunned down a bus of school kids. And guess who they don't do this to: McCain.
That's just cable news. Regular, local news coverage is it's own thing altogether. They hardly have time in a broadcast to really get to any issues or points beyond the buzz of what someone said that day that is being taken negatively.
The press needs to take off the kid gloves they use with McCain. If you're running for president no matter what your age, you open yourself to being called out on lies and deception. I guess McCain is too fragile, or the press knows too well about his temper. But it's just frustrating to see the media not call him out on this, because they will sure call out Obama on a wide range of things day after day.
- nicnichols0
No I was jokingly replying to Dobs saying he would pick Obama over any republican, just because he would never vote for a republican.
- nicnichols0
On second thought, this was probably not the place to ask for political opinion...
- You just figured that out? :)TheBlueOne
- Ya blue.. you're right.. oh well, back to what the font!!nicnichols
- chossy0
Will there be a head to head style debate with the two candidates?... mcain and obama should be grilled thoroughly about foreign policy, mcain will no doubt keep name dropping and obama will probably say he will listen to what they want and try to come to a middle ground and a reasonable position.
It is clear to an outsider that Obama is a good thing for America, it's international image will begin to raise in popularity and I am sure younger people will begin to take a more active role in the countries politics.

If you examine every issue, and vote using logic and reason, than you've made a sound decision. Don't let the propaganda and emotion get the best of you.
McCain's arguments are not logical. It's not logical to assume that when you enable offshore drilling, we're going to see relief at the gas pump. There is no such thing as a United States oil market; there is only one world oil market. Offshore drilling would help the oil companies get more money, and it may add a few percentage points to the total amount of oil in the market, but it won't make a big impact in our gas prices.

most people who say Obama has no specifics are just looking for a reason not to vote for him
- no, we're actually looking for Specifics that would make us vote FOR him...nicnichols
- Mimio0
Why look for specifics when you reject the broadest ideals of his platform?
- He has broads on his platform? Oh he's got my vote now!nicnichols
- nicnichols0
Honestly I think I misspoke on this.. I wasn't looking to bash anyone, just some examples of why people see him as the 'Hope'.. I am sure he more then qualified, and I am sure he has the best intentions..
...looks like I need to keep the politics to the political sites....

We know one specific, Obama is for abortion...including partial birth abortion. Oh sorry he stated he was not "pro abortion", just "pro-choice" as if there is a difference.
- There is a difference. Most people don't actually like abortions.Jaline
- So what's your point? Obviously "not liking abortions" isn't a strong enough reason to vote against them for Obama. Speak with your actions.designbot
- with actions...not words.designbot
- My point is that there is a difference between pro-choice and pro-abortion.Jaline
- please explain....because I don't see much of a difference. By being pro-choice you are saying abortion is ok with you.designbot
- In specific situations, yes. Pro-choice = believing that each person has a right to choose and make a decision.Jaline
- For me, it has to be within a specific time period or for a good reason.Jaline
- I respect your view, but the problem is that such circumstances are not enforced. Voting pro-choice means you are voting for abortion in general and not specific cases or circumstances.designbot
- ..voting for abortion in general and not specific cases or circumstances.designbot
- is that really the most important issue to you?mrdobolina
- btw, I don't care if pat roberts becomes president, abortions won't go away.mrdobolina
- that is an infantile argument. I've never met a pro-abortion person. pro-choice is simply that.monkeyshine
- mrdobolina, "life" in general is probably the most important issue to me. Most things pale in comparison. And I definitely consider the Iraq war to be a "life" issue also.designbot
- ....consider the Iraq war to fall under this category as well.designbot
- Nobody is pro-abortion. Overpopulation and current orphaned kids should be a concern tooSigDesign
- over-population? this is a complete farce....give me some facts.designbot
