Is Global Warming really still being discussed as something that has merit??? C'mon folks. Sure going "green" is fashionable, but it doesn't square up with the data...

Climate change controversies: a simple guide

^ "Environmentalism has replaced socialism as the leading secular religion."
hmmm
"Pope Preaches Green at UN"
"International action to preserve the environment and to protect various forms of life on Earth must not only guarantee a rational use of technology and science, but must also rediscover the authentic image of creation," Pope Benedict told the UN General Assembly.

^ "Environmentalism has replaced socialism as the leading secular religion."
Is this statement supposed to make me ashamed to care about our planet? Environmentalism is based on science.
Science is defined as:
Systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation. What's wrong with believing in that?

Science is also based on consumerism...

This idea that global warming started with politicians is absurd. Most politicians (even most Dems) are very reluctant to talk about it while campaigning. They know there are a lot of deniers out there. It would be a lot easier if we could all ignore the issue, but we can't.
There are still WAY more scientists that say it's caused by humans than there are scientists who deny it.

How do scientists earn their wages joeth, do you think they work for nothing?
What I'm trying to say is that all scientists' "findings" don't exist in isolation, they exist in a world where they can be "swayed" one way or the other by many differing forces, including economic, social, political and probably most worryingly, peer pressure.

More than 600 climate change leaders from across the country and around the world convened in Los Angeles today for the opening sessions of the Global Climate Summit, a 2-day event arranged by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to break gridlock on the issue ahead of next month's United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poznan, Poland.
In a short video addressed to the Summit's attendees, President-elect Obama emphasized his enthusiasm for the Poznan Conference and promised that his administration would mark a "new chapter in American leadership on climate change."

pollution is unscientific! UNSCIENTIFIC!

Did the ancient land bridges which dissolved away due to global warming do so because of SUV's?
Of course pollution is bad and of course we should be good stewards of our planet. Just don't tell me that human-generated CO2 emissions are causing global warming when the scientific evidence isn't there.
- the science is there though. you can't burn huge amounts of fossil fuels for a couple centuries and not heat the earth up.KwesiJ
- ...the earth up.KwesiJ
- That's a naked assertion. Not evidence. Produce the evidence.teleos

- i'm not a scientist and neither are you but i have heard of 95% concensus's and very realistic (undenialble) explanation of the actual 'greenhouse' effectKwesiJ

A problem with the assertion that the Earth started heating up around the time of the beginning of the Industrial Revolution is flawed not only in the lack of data before that time period but also in the evidence showing a similar warming cycle on Mars. It's facts we search for not the beleif a few heavy politicians have based on theorems that are still being argued against within the scientific community.

it's not about giving up a desire to make our world a better place. If you maintain the same perspective we'll get there. It's about blindly believing an idea because a politician says so. Gore is rapidly becoming tied to large amounts of capital generating Greener technologies. He has a stake in it's success far beyond his words.

I for one want to see our dependence on foreign oil go away. A broader plan than that of our President elect needs to be offered up.

Film-makers taking on our 'global warming hysteria'
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspa…new Irish film claims that climate change guru Al Gore is an alarmist and that those who think they are saving the planet are only hurting the poor
IF THE ADVANCE publicity is anything to go by, Not Evil Just Wrong will do for Al Gore what Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 did for George W Bush.
- I wonder if any of you are even remotely interested, objectivity anyone? Or just some more Hollywood?********
- all of a sudden 'hurting the poor' has something to do with industry and poltics, i wonder whyKwesiJ

so, will this documentary disprove climate change or point out the errors that have already been pointed out in al gore's film?
- Dunno. I'm sure it will attempt to debunk many of Gore's claims that support the theory of 'global warming'.********

"10 Jun 2008
The national science academies of the G8 nations and Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa have signed a statement on climate change adaptation and the transition to a low carbon society. Adaptation is necessary if the worst impacts of climate change, now and in the future, are to be alleviated. Mitigation and adaptation can complement each other and if pursued together can significantly reduce the risks of climate change impacts."
