"So we should just wait 100 years, keep polluting and see what happens... "
Dobs... I love ya, man... but... jeeez...
Why is it when someone refutes scientific info w/other scientific info... do some folks immediately say something like that?
Do you really think that jazX, Arv... myself... or anyone else who is SICK of having bullshit science rammed down our throats in order to move someone's stupid agenda along REALLY WANTS TO SEE THE EARTH DESTROYED?
Do you really hold us in that dark and contempt a place just because we refuse to agree w/evangelized junk-science?
I don't think there's one person in this thread who is FOR the destruction of the Earth...
... stow the emotion, would ya? :)
- I say 'stow it' w/pure emotion myself.. and failed to put the '//' in front of it. :)turk_182
- I am for destruction. But it's only because, like some transvestites, I feel like I was born in the wrong planet.tommyo
- I wish I could destroy this website. Well, first steal it from JK and then sell it for a million and then smash it!********

Actually the argument has moved along and the interests that are selling the "research" that they claims refutes the IPCC findings are the same people who said global warming wasn't happening fifteen years ago. Now they've just trying to get their footing again with another set of contrary claims.

The opposite of going green is what though? Not giving a fuck about polluting, I really don't get what you guys are trying to hang your hat on. What is the alternative?
- I'm all for GoGreen initiatives. Like I said, I help lead one, Expensive, but it's a positive thing. Glo. Warming dif. story********
- What I should say is that we've implemented more energy efficiency company-wide. If that helps the enviro, great!********
- I suppose there is an overlap in terms of "anti-global warming" practices and being energy efficient.********

No I'm all for cleaning up our act. Don't get me wrong. I think the worst it could do, even if global warming is an earth cycle, is we use less, waste less and live cleaner. But these companies all trying to take advantage with their marketing are complete fuckoffs and I hope they can all attend my Green Marketing Convention which I happen to be having on the edge of the Grand Canyon.
- that's what gets me too. you see this money-making agenda out there.********

Sure, turk... just like there's nobody who is Pro-Abortion (that's not sarcasm).
In the science world, every discovery is always being disputed. If those scientists had a valid claim, rest assured, it's being investigated.
However, it's completely beneficial to ALL of us to get off of fossil fuels and pollute the Earth less. It's a fact that these pollutants are not good for our planet or for us as human beings.
Also, if you can't discover for yourself whether Global Warming exists, it's equally daft to make the assumption that those 18,000 scientists are proof to a theory.
- no arguement with you at all...
... my point is those who dispute global warming's 'science' DO NOT wish to see the earth destroyed.turk_182 - destroyed...
... didn't really need an additional lecture there on pollutants...turk_182 - ... as i do not WISH TO POLLUTE.
:) I think I was pretty clear about that... yes?turk_182 - I just agreed with you. I don't think you want to see the planet destroyed.SigDesign

You people can;t be please with anything, you say the word socialism 100 times a day and then when companies make a buck off of green initiatives you bitch about that too. Jump in a rocket and leave the planet.

Rick,
Drink a glass of wine and then come back okay ... maybe some Miles Davis.
Seriously, Hybrid Cadillac Escalade. Wait, let me say it again, Hybrid Cadillac Escalade. This is sooo stupid. Corporations are doing what corporations do .. try to make money no matter what. It's fake as hell and they try and make people feel good about 'being green' when sometimes...green really isn't so green:
"As already noted, the Prius is partly driven by a battery which contains nickel. The nickel is mined and smelted at a plant in Sudbury, Ontario. This plant has caused so much environmental damage to the surrounding environment that NASA has used the ‘dead zone’ around the plant to test moon rovers. The area around the plant is devoid of any life for miles.
The plant is the source of all the nickel found in a Prius’ battery and Toyota purchases 1,000 tons annually. Dubbed the Superstack, the plague-factory has spread sulfur dioxide across northern Ontario, becoming every environmentalist’s nightmare.
“The acid rain around Sudbury was so bad it destroyed all the plants and the soil slid down off the hillside,” said Canadian Greenpeace energy-coordinator David Martin during an interview with Mail, a British-based newspaper.
All of this would be bad enough in and of itself; however, the journey to make a hybrid doesn’t end there. The nickel produced by this disastrous plant is shipped via massive container ship to the largest nickel refinery in Europe. From there, the nickel hops over to China to produce ‘nickel foam.’ From there, it goes to Japan. Finally, the completed batteries are shipped to the United States, finalizing the around-the-world trip required to produce a single Prius battery. Are these not sounding less and less like environmentally sound cars and more like a farce?
Wait, I haven’t even got to the best part yet. When you pool together all the combined energy it takes to drive and build a Toyota Prius, the flagship car of energy fanatics, it takes almost 50 percent more energy than a Hummer - the Prius’s arch nemesis.
Through a study by CNW Marketing called “Dust to Dust,” the total combined energy is taken from all the electrical, fuel, transportation, materials (metal, plastic, etc) and hundreds of other factors over the expected lifetime of a vehicle. The Prius costs an average of $3.25 per mile driven over a lifetime of 100,000 miles - the expected lifespan of the Hybrid."
No YOU jump in a Prius and come have a drink in LA. :)
- nm...it's a myth and I fell for it. But did you have a nice glass of wine?tommyo
- I dont get it.DrBombay

Global warming exists, humans are NOT responsible.
Governments know this but are capitalizing on it.
Simple stuff really.
- You're certain about that? Where's your evidence that carbon emissions wouldn't increase temps?joeth
- joeth0
YES, there are greedy capitalists trying to take advantage of the "green" movement.
Does that mean human-caused global warming is all a bunch of rubbish? NOT NECESSARILY... Does it mean that there aren't real solutions to cutting greenhouse gases. NO.
Some of those real solutions might even make someone rich. God forbid. It's our job as consumers to separate the BS from the real thing. Instead of watching commercials, maybe read a book.
People need to stop being so cynical of every damn thing and look at the possible outcomes. What if the scientists are right about global warming and we've done nothing about it?
- moural0
If scientists are right, then that's great. Unfortunately, however, a lot of the panic and chaos directed at the situation is being pushed forward by various agendas, and not necessarily science. If you're going to attempt to solve a problem, it's best to confront it in a practical and purposeful manner. Some of the people that despise the situation in Iraq are, ironically, approaching Mother Earth in the very same inapt way.
The Earth is 4.5 billion years old. Waiting, debating, discussing, and analyzing things for another handful of years to come up with a respected, sapient strategy is not, pardon the pun, going to be the end of the world.
- joeth0
I agree that our political leaders aren't doing much do solve anything. But we've been waiting, debating, discussing, and analyzing things for a very long time. Meanwhile, the warming effects are getting more and more threatening.
What makes you think we're going to suddenly come to a consensus one day? As if some new scientific study will come out to finally shut everyone up. There will always be debate. What we need is to act.
And like others have pointed out... the "acting" will only help our environment if the scientists end up being wrong about global warming.

"about 40% of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions stem from the burning of fossil fuels for the purpose of electricity generation. Coal accounts for 93 percent of the emissions from the electric utility industry"
So to sum it up...stop using electricity you pricks! :)
Anyone still opposed to nuclear power?

Obama's take:
"Let me sort of describe my overall policy.
What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there.
I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."
What the hell is he thinking? Bankrupt the coal industry...great idea.
- I know, he actually came out and said that, what a f*cking idiot.********
- Externalities are a bitch. My advice is don't go into the pollution business.Mimio
- yup, unreal.designbot
- Obama is going to fall flat on his face on many issues, don't be surprised by it. No experience.********
- Mimio , the "pollution business" are you serious? I suppose owning a car puts me in the "pollution business" too eh?designbot
- Seriously, strip mining and coal powered electrical plants are archaic. There's better ways.Mimio
- I'm all for Nuclear Power. Renewable energy sources.********
- I agree. Nuclear is one way to offset this. But bankrupting the coal industry is not the answer. Especially now of all times.designbot
- It's economics, the external costs are too great to keep using coal this way.Mimio
