What follows are 15 trends that have indeed popped up all over the world. Overcasting them all are prevailing winds that are worth noting first:
We saw less emphasis on sustainability or general "greenness" in logo design. There's plenty of natural imagery, but being "green" doesn't seem all that unique anymore. Colors are becoming more vivid. Desaturation has drained away, and the chroma factor pumped up. There's an overall move toward cleanliness - in type, in line, in color - as if ideas are getting more and more succinct. It may be an indication of the degree of seriousness with which branding is now regarded.

"There's an overall move toward cleanliness - in type, in line, in color - as if ideas are getting more and more succinct. It may be an indication of the degree of seriousness with which branding is now regarded."
Really? Seems like they are getting less succinct and more and more elaborate judging by the examples above. Nice article though

what happened to good ol' logo design of the 60s and 70s?
- kerus0
i can hear my design prof now scolding the creators of 3/4 of these.. "IT WONT REPRO AT 50%!!!"
but srsly i really dig a few of these, while others are just too complex to be truly memorable... "no our logo is the circle with 274 ticks, not 272!"

A nightmare to print most of those. Print, remember print?
- I do like some of those logos, but you're right.Jaline
- print? What's that?flashbender

I don´t wanna see the reality.

Generally, (not the examples above) a lot of brands are going for the "green/sustainable" look, for the absolute wrong reasons..
add a few leafs here, a branch there.. maybe a little bird.. that's it! we are green. Now consume this product in order to save the planet"Anyone heard the radio/tv spot on GTA IV about hybrid cars?
its hilarious but true..

About the examples above, besides a few exceptions, most of those look like "pre-made/ template" logos, that you will find on logo king, the kind of "here is a little globe, replace text with your company name" A lot of general guides regarding logos seem to be ignored on the examples above, some one mentioned "nightmare to print" what about being able to work at different sizes, 1 color/ reversed out/ or in b/w?
I'm not sure if these are good examples of logos today. I think we've all seen way better examples when it comes to current trends in logo design.
(I must say that I have not clicked the link, or read the article)

I'll take the mermaid.

I might getting old or completely has been, but is still think logo must work in B/W, most of the logo shown won't work in B/W. they are some nice piece of type work, but not logos.

Im not really feeling the last 8.
- doesnotexist0
that mermaid is the best one
- imnotadesigner0
seems like theres alot of motion

I'm not sure how I feel about all these op-art/ exploding supernova style logos. Seems like it is a trend (the new Reuters logo is another one) but what the hell does it achieve? They don't express anything about the company and don't seem to have a lot of thought behind them.
- i agree, they just look cool and have no other purpose than to show some vague idea of something.doesnotexist
- plus you can come up with a MILLION explanations for the concept... unity, dynamism, progress, golfballs in flight. etc.monNom

the mermaid inn logo isn't exactly new, either
- why don't you cry about itdoesnotexist

I find that Logo Lounge's annual design trend article achieves one thing, and that is how out of tune the people writing it are on the history of logo design.

clarification: I meant mermaid inn was created a number of years ago, not that I didn't like it. I like it.

I agree/disagree with some/all/none of the comments above.
I'm kinda old school in that I think a logo should, yes - work in black and white, white and black, white on red/blue/green - 1 color basically..
You should be able to read the company name and absorb everything about the logo as it speeds past you on the side of a bus, or as you glance up at a billboard in the outside lane, and in that time, the line and the composition need to communicate at least 2 distinct concepts that blend/interact/conjoin/resolve into a unique and meaningful identity, which I honestly think none of those do. They all look like LogoConcept12_aaa.ai that I and many of us have squirreled away in client folders somewhere.
